18-Footer - JJ Giltinan Trophy - Sydney AUS - Final results, Hamlin 5th in last race

18-Footer - JJ Giltinan Trophy - Sydney AUS - Final results, Hamlin 5th in last race The final race of the 2017 JJ Giltinan Championship was held in a variable moderate to fresh autumn breeze on Sydney Harbour splitting the fleet considerably. A class of her own was again 'Yahama' withj David McDiarmid NZL grasping the 4th win in 7 races. But this was not enough for the title, as - after discarding the abandoned race - they still had a 19th place after a failed start on the results sheet. After a long row of JJ Giltinan runner-up results, 'Thurlow Fisher Lawyers' (Michael Coxon/Trent Barnabas/Dave O'Connor AUS) finally earned her third Championship title, confirming the consistent performance with a 2nd race rank today and a 5th place as discard. 'Coopers Rag & Famish' mit Jack McCartney AUS defended her 2nd overall place. 'Yahama' NZL as 3rd advanced on the podium ahead of her compatriots 'C-Tech' of Alex Vallings NZL at equal points. Howie Hamlin USA finished 5th in the last race and will certainly improve his 12th place overall.

18-Footer - JJ Giltinan Trophy - Sydney AUS - Race 6

18-Footer - JJ Giltinan Trophy - Sydney AUS - Race 6 Rain and an up to 15 kn breeze prevailed today on Sydney Harbour where the JJ Giltinan Championship continued after the lay day. The big news before the 6th race were, that the redress given to ‘Yamaha’ NZL after the abandoned 3rd race was overturned when ‘Appliancesonline’ AUS protested against the redress given. ‘Yamaha’ must therefore count the 27 points on its result sheet.
But ‘Yamaha’ with David McDiarmid NZL showed today her outstanding class, winning the 6th race with a 3:30 min advantage on ‘Cooper Rag and Famish’ AUS and ‘Appliancesonline' AUS. Finishing 4th, ‘Thurlow Fisher Lawyers’ AUS extended her overall lead on the second ‘Cooper Rag and Famish’ with the discard in effect now. The fight for the podium ranks 2 and 3 will be close in tomorrow’s final race with ‘C-Tech’ NZL, ‘Appliancesonline’ AUS and ‘Smeg’ AUS closely together. For ‘Yamaha’, the podium is probably out of reach as they still count a 19th place in theresults after discarding the 27 points.
