Olympic Worldcup 2017/18 - Gamagori JPN - Final results

 Olympic Worldcup 2017/18 - Gamagori JPN - Final results This morning UTC, the remaining Medal Races were on the program of the Olympic Classes Worldcup in Japan. However, the approaching typhoon prompted the Race Committee to cancel racing prematurely and the 470 men and RS:X men could not sail their final race.
Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS were therefore the clear winners in the 470 men ahead of Isozaki/Takayanagi JPN and Imamura/Hokazono JPN.
In the 470 women, the World Champions Agnieszka Skrzypulec/Irmina Mrozek POL demonstrated their superiority winning the Medal Race in very shifty winds. Ai Kondo/Miho Yoshioka JPN had no problem defending Silver. Bronze however was won by the 5th placed Cassandre Blandin/Aloîse Retornaz FRA finishing second after a very clever race relegating Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI, concentrating their race on the previously 4th Benedetta di Salle/Alessandra Dubbini ITA on rank 4.
The only North American qualified for a Medal Race was Erika Reineke USA in the Lasers Radial with the results below in a separate news text.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2017/18 - Gamagori JPN - Final results, Erika Reineke USA 5th The first Act of the Olympic Classes 2017/18 Worldcup in Japan ended this morning UTC with the Medal Races held in rain and light, but very shifty winds.
Finishing 4th, Sam Meech NZL defended his overall lead in the Lasers Standard, as the World Champion Pavlos Kontides CYP was apparently not aggressive enough finishing on on 7th today remaining 2nd overall. Tom Burton AUS won the race and climbed on rank 3 taking Bronze.
In the Lasers Radial, the leading Vasileia Karachaliou GRE eliminated herself from the podium producing a premature start. Rank 4 at equal points with the 3rd was the consequence. The Olympic Bronze medalist Anne-Marie Rindom DEN inherited the first place ahead of Emma Plaesschart BEL. Josefin Olsson SWE moved up on rank 3. Erika Reineke USA finished 6th in the Medal Race and 5th overall.

Update Noon : Olympic Worldcup 17/18 - Act 1 - Gamagori JPN - Day 6

The Olympic Classes Worldcup event in Gamagori JPN continued this morning UTC with the Medal Races. Only three of the four planned heats could be completed but the unconstant light wind delayed the starts all over again.
No changes on the podium occurred after the three Medal Races of the 49ers, but Dylan Fletcher/Stuart Bithell GBR were about to loose against James Peters/Fynn Sterritt GBR who were finally caught by the anchor line of the committee boat on the finish line. Lukasz Przybytek/Pawel Kolodsinski POL had the 3rd place clearly under control.
In the 49ersFX, the Medal Races completely change the podium. The leading French Lili Sebesi/Albane Dubois FRA had major difficulties to make the best tactical decisions in the prevailing very light breeze, finished on the ranks 6, 7 and 9), and dropped on the 6th place overall ... with only 4 points on the winners. Victoria Travaschio/Maria Branz ARG finished first one point ahead of Tanja Frank/Lorena Abicht AUT 2nd and at equal points Sayoko Harada/Sera Nagamatsu JPN on 3rd.
In the RS:X women windsurfers, Hei Man Chan HKG moved up from 4th to first in front of Fujiko Onishi JPN 2nd and Xianting Huang CHN 3rd.
The Medal Race of the RS:X men windsurfers has been postponed on tomorrow. Pawel Tarnowski POL leads one point ahead of Mengfang Gao CHN and 3 points ahead of Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI and Makoto Tamizawa JPN.
All other classes sailed one or two races and have one or two more races scheduled for tomorrow. The Olympic Champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS extended their lead in the 470 men on 15 points. Isozaki/Yakatanagi JPN and Luke Patience/Chris Grube GBR are now the first challengers. In the 470 women, Agniszka Przybytek/Irmina Mrozek POL extended their lead on the 2nd Ai Kondo/Miho Joshioka JPN to 9 points. Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI lost lost one place and are now solid 3rd one point behind 2nd and 8 pts ahead of 4th.

Lorenzo Chiavarini GBR on the 3rd place is 26 points behind. In the Lasers Radial, the leader Anne-Marie Rindom DEN sailed their worst result (rank 26) in the first race of the day and dropped on rank 3. New on top is now Vasileia Karachaliou GRE 7 points ahead of Emma Plaeschart BEL on 2nd.
One race in the Lasers Standard and two races in the Lasers Radial are on the program tomorrow, but the meteo announces the approach of a typhoon with wind speeds of over 200 kmh and big waves and their might be a premature end of the Worldcup event. Wait and see ...

The Lasers sailed two races at the Gamagori JPN Worldcup event this morning UTC in light unconstant winds.
In the Lasers Standard, Sam Meech NZL is the new leader 3 points ahead of the World Champion Pavlos Kontides CYP, ready to attack for victory in the last race tomorrow. Lorenzo Chiavarini GBR on the 3rd place is 26 points behind.
In the Lasers Radial, the leader Anne-Marie Rindom DEN sailed their worst result (rank 26) in the first race of the day and dropped on rank 3. New on top is now Vasileia Karachaliou GRE 7 points ahead of Emma Plaeschart BEL on 2nd.

 Olympic Worldcup 17/18 - Act 1 - Gamagori JPN - Medal Races now live In Gamagori JPN, the Medal Races are on the program today. The 49ers completed already two races and Dylan Fletcher/Stuart Bithell GBR are still in the lead ahead of Peters/Sterritt GBR 2 pts behind, the ones to fight for Gold and Silver in the last race. Przybytek/ Kolodsinki POL will endeavour to keep the 3rd place. The Medal Races can be followed live on top of our homepage.

Update 11h CET: Olympic Worldcup 2017/18 - Gamagori JPN - Day 5, Erika Reineke USA 6th

The program at the Olympic Classes Worldcup in Japan continued today with two to three races per class.
Agnieszka Skrzypulec/Irmina Mrozek POL consolidated their 1st place in the 470 women with the day ranks 3 and 2. Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI, (1 and 9 today) on rank 2 are 6 points behind. Ai Kondo Yoshida/Miho Yoshioka JPN one point back are new on 3rd. In the 470 men, Belcher/Ryan AUS are now solidly on top ahead of Snow-Hanson/Willcox NZL. Isozaki/Takayanagi JPN are down on 3rd.
In the 49ersFX, Lili Sebesi/Albane Dubois FRA are still in the lead followed by Sayoko Horada/Sera Nagamatsu JPN. In the 49ers, the favorites Fletcher/Bithell GBR have now a 4 points advantage on Przybytek/Kolodzinski POL new on 2nd.
In the RS:X men windsurfers, the situation on top is tight with Pawel Tarnowski POL as first one point ahead of Mengfan Gao CHN and 3 points ahead of Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI. In the RS:X women, Fuijiko Onishi JPN and Megumi Komine JPN share the first place. Hei Man H V Chan HKG follows one point behind as 3rd.

Noon Update: Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2017/18 - Gamagori JPN - Day 5, Erika Reineke USA 6th

Three races were held today to compensate for the unplanned lay day yesterday.
In spite of a downer (rank 14 = discard), the World Champion Pavlos Kontides CYP remained on top with the ranks 7 and 2 in the Lasers Standard. New on rank 2 is Sam Meech NZL starting the day with a blackflag disqualification but shining afterwards with two bullets. Lorenzo Chiavarini GBR is now on rank 2.
Leader change in the Lasers Radial where the previous leader Anne-Marie Rindom DEN (day ranks 9/4/26) dropped on the 6th place 13 points from the podium. Vasileia Karachaliou GRE moved up on first, 2 points ahead of Josefin Olsson SWE new on 2nd and Emma Plaschaert BEL remaining on 3rd.

 Olympic Worldcup 17/18 - Act 1 - Gamagori JPN - Day 5 After the unplanned lay day due to lack of wind yesterday, racing resumed this morning in Japan.
First to finish a race were the RS:X men windsurfers and despite of a 6th place, Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI defended the first place overall. Already two races have been completed by the RS:X women windsurfers and Hei Man Chan CHN has taken the overall lead one point ahead of Megumi Komine JPN on the 2nd place. The updated ranking lists will be published during the day.

Update 11h CET: Olympic Worldcup 2017/18 - Gamagori JPN - Day 2, Erika Reineke USA 4th

Only light winds prevailed today Wednesday on the second day of the Olympic Classes Worldcup in Gamagori JPN, and not all planned races could be held.
The 470 women sailed only one race and Agnieszka Skrzypulec/Irmina Mrozek POL, finishing 2nd, are now the sole leaders. Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI and Benedetta Di Salle/Alessandra Dubbini ITA are on the ranks 2 and 3 one point behind each. In the 470 men, Isozaki/Takayanagi JPN have taken the lead 2 points ahead of the day's winners Capurro/Puppo ITA, as well as Belcher/Ryan AUS on the ranks 2 and 3.
In the 49ersFX, Lili Sebesi/Albane Dubois FRA defended their lead. New on rank 2 are Sayoko Horada/Sera Nagamatsu JPN. In the 49ers, the leaders are Fletcher/Bithell GBR 4 points ahead of Peters/Sterritt GBR.
No racing for the RS:X men windsurfers, where Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI leads after the two races of day 1. The RS:X women windsurfers completed at least one race and Megumi Komine JPN is now first overall ahead of Wai Yan Ngay HKG.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2017/18 - Gamagori JPN - Day 2, Erika Reineke USA still 4th The wind filled in late and racing started with some delay. However, the two planned races could be held in light winds.
Finishing 2 and 3, the World Champion Pavlos Kontides CYP took the overall lead in the Lasers Standard ahead of Lorenzo Chiavarini GBR and Tom Burton AUS.
Leader change in the Lasers Radial with Anne-Marie Rindom DEN now one point ahead of Vasileia Karachaliou GRE. Emma Plaschaert BEL follows on rank 3.

Olympic Worldcup 17/18 - Act 1 - Gamagori JPN - Day 1

The first 2017/18 Olympic Classes Worldcup event began yesterday in Gamagori JPN with the full program sailed in light winds. Wednesday morning (Japan time), the wind was absent and the first races have just been concluded now. We shall be back around 10h UTC for today's results.
The Swiss had a perfect first day with Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI leading in the RS:X Men Windsurfers with two race wins, and Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI ranked 2nd in the 470 Women at equal points with the leading Skrzypulec/Mrozek POL.
The 470 women just finished their first race today with a 2nd place for the Polish women, keeping their first position overall. Fahrni/Siegenthaler SUI finished 5th and defended their 2nd place overall.

The first 2017/18 Olympic Classes Worldcup event began in Japan yesterday morning with two races.
With Lorenzo Chiavarini GBR, Pavlos Kontides CYP and Francesco Marrai ITA, a trio is in the lead at equal points in the Lasers Standard.
One race was completed by the Lasers Radial with Anne-Marie Rindom DEN as winner ahead of Monika Mikkola FIN.
