 Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Olympic Classes Regatta - Miami FL, USA - Final results. Caleb Paine USA excellent 2nd It was quite windy yesterday (16-20kn) during the remaining five Miami Olympic Classes Worldcup Medal Races. The leaders per class had mostly clear advantages before the starts and remained on top at the end of the day. The interest was therefore on the remaining Silver and Bronze Medals.
Tina Mrak/Veronika Macarol SLO finished first in the 470 women ahead of Skrzypulec/Mrozek POL and Kondo/Yoshioka JPN. 27 points is the lead of Luke Patience/Chris Grube GBR on Kevin Peponnet/Jérémy Mion FRA in the 470 men. The Olympic Champion Giles Scott GBR remains the clear number one in the Finns, winning the Medal Race and extending his lead in the overall rankings on 32 points. Caleb Paine USA replaced Alican Kaynar TUR on rank 2.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Miami FL, USA - Final results In an up to 20kn breeze, Alison Young GBR remained on top of the Lasers Radial with a 2nd rank in the Medal Race. Emma Plaeschart BEL and Anne-Marie Rindom DEN earned Silver and Bronze. Paige Railey USA finished on rank 13 after a long absence from the Olympic circuit. Marit Bouwmeester NED and Evi Van Acker BEL, the World nbr 1 and 2, did not compete.
Tom Burton AUS was the premature winner in the Lasers Standard before the Medal Race already. He could easily correct a premature start in the final race and complete the race sailing behind the fleet. Philipp Buhl GER grasped the Silver Medal just one point ahead of Nick Thompson GBR.

The best North Americans by class and nation are:
- Laser Standard: Charlie Buckingham USA 12th, Robert Davis 21st, Yanic Gentry MEX 59th

 Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Olympic Classes Regatta - Miami FL, USA - Day 6 The first five classes sailed their Medal Races yesterday in a fresh 20kn breeze, concluding the Miami Olympic Classes Worldcup Regatta.
In the RS:X women windsurfers, 7 of the 10 participants had an option on a Medal. Winning the Medal Race, Hélène Noesmoen FRA was the overall winner one point ahead of Flavia Tartaglini ITA, and another point back Blanca Manchon ESP 3. French was the winner in the RS:X men windsurfers with Louis Giard FRA. As 2nd in the last race, Kiran Badloe NED replaced Pierre Le Coq FRA on rank 2.
No change on top of the 49ers: Fletcher/Bihell GBR remained on rank 1 ahead of Botin/Lopez ESP and Alonso/Alonso ESP. Smashing was the victory in the 49ersFX where Viktoria Jurczok/Anika Lorenz GER on top had finally a 24 (!) points lead on Ragna and Maia Agerup NOR. Tanja Frank/ Lorena Abicht AUT earned Bronze.
As convincing was also the victory of Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS 23 points ahead of the second in the Nacras 17. The Olympic Champion Santiago Lange/Cecilia Carranza ARG took Silver, Thomas Zajac/Barbara Matz AUT Bronze.
The other 5 classes sailed some more Qualification Series heats.
Before today's Medal Races, Giles Scott GBR is the premature winner 19 points ahead of Alican Kaynar TUR and Caleb Payne USA 3 points back, will fight for Silver and Bronze today.
Nobody doubts that the 470 men title will go to the UK. Patience/Grube GBR are first 17 points ahead of Peponnet/Mion FRA 8 points ahead of Anton Dahlberg/Frederik Bergström SWE.
New on top of the 470 women are Tina Mrak/Veronika Macarol SLO, 13 points ahead of Afrodite Zegers/Anneloes Van Veen NED on a safe way to the overall win. At equal points with the Dutch girls are Agnieszka Skrzypulec/Irmina Mrozek POL fighting for the Silver and Bronze but Ai Kondo/Miho Yoshioka JPN 3 points behind have also an option on a podium place.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Miami FL, USA - Day 5, no North Americans in Medal Races A fresh breeze around 20kn prevailed also on the last day of the Laser Qualification Series races on Biscayne Bay.
Finishing 1 and 6, Tom Burton AUS was again the best of the day in the Lasers Standard and with a 30 points' advantage, he is the premature winner. Nick Thompson GBR, one point behind Philipp Buhl GER as well as Sam Meech NZL (deficit on Silver 4 points) will fight for a place on the podium.
With a race win, Alison Young GBR reclaimed the first place in the Lasers Radial. She starts to the Medal Race with a 5 points advantage on Emma Plaesschart BEL. Anne-Marie Rindom DEN follows closely behind and also Mathilde de Kerangeat FRA remains in the battle for Medals.

Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Olympic Classes Regatta - Miami FL, USA - Day 4, US teams in Skiffs and Nacra Medal Races today

 Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Olympic Classes Regatta - Miami FL, USA - Day 4, US teams in Skiffs and Nacra Medal Races today With the wind and sea state on Biscayne Bay failing to moderate during the day - winds averaging nearly 30 miles per hour, with gusts close to 40 - sailing was cancelled for the day. The Qualification Series for the Skiffs, Nacra 17 catamarans and windsurfers in view of the Medal Races of today are herewith concluded. The USA Sailing Team will be represented in the Skiffs and the Nacras. The other 5 classes will sail the final Qualification heats today to select the 10 best per class for tomorrow's Medal Races.
In the Nacra 17, Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS are the premature winners with a 19 points' lead. In all other classes, the outcome is fully open.

 Laser Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Olympic Classes Regatta - Miami FL, USA - Day 4, Buckingham USA racing for the Medal Race cut today With winds averaging nearly 30kn, gusts close to 40kn and rough seas, sailing was cancelled on Friday. The forecast for today predicts moderate winds for the last Qualification Series races of the two Laser fleets.
In the Lasers Radial, Emma Plaeschart BEL might well be the premature winner by this evening, as she has a 22 points' lead on rank 2. Manami Doi JPN and Anne-Marie Rindom DEN are the first chasers.
In the Lasers Standard, Tom Burton AUS has a 10 points' advantage on Philipp Buhl GER. The World Champion Pavlos Kontides CYP on rank 11 has to fight for the rank 10 cut in today's heats.
The best Northamericans by nation are in the Lasers Standard Charlie Buckingham USA 9th, Robert Davis 22nd, Yanic Gentry MEX 54th and in the Radials Paige Railey USA 15th, Isabella Bertold CAN 16th.

 Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Olympic Classes Regatta - Miami FL, USA - Day 3, 6 USA teams in top-10 As predicted, the wind filled in with 18-20kn and more in the gusts on Biscayne Bay yesterday, and the big-breeze specialists took the command in most classes.
As best of the day, Louis Giard FRA moved on top of the RS:X men windsurfers and his advantage on the 2nd-ranked Pierre Le Coq FRA is already 12 points. The new leader in the RS:X women windsurfers is Stefania Elfutina RUS 3 points ahead of Blanca Manchon ESP new on rank 2.
Fletcher/Bithell GBR defended their first place in the 49ers followed by Botin/Lopez ESP new on 2nd 3 points behind. Victoria Jurczok/Anika Lorenz GER continued their winning streak win the 49ersFX and extended their lead on Ragna and Maia Agerup NOR to 10 points. Only 7 of the 21 teams finished the race !
In the 470 men, Patience/Grube GBR, day ranks 1 and 2, are new on top 6 points ahead of Kevin Peponnet/Jérémy Mion FRA. Kondo/Yoshioka JPN defended their lead in the 470 women in front of Zegers/van Veen NED, day ranks 1 and 2 moving up on the 2nd place 6 points behind the Japanese.
Giles Scott GBR (4/1 yesterday) is the new leader in the Finns just one point ahead of Alican Kaynar TUR (1/3 yesterday). In the Nacras 17, Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS fly away on top increasing their lead on Santiago Lange/Cecilia Carranza ARG to 19 points.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Olympic Classes Regatta - Miami FL, USA - Day 3, Buckingham USA 9th to fight for tomorrow's Medal Race The two races held on Biscayne Bay yesterday, the first day with a fresh 18-20kn breeze, provoked a number of changes in the rankings.
Emma Plaetschart BEL is the new leader in the Lasers Radial, thanks to the discard of the worst result. Manami Doi JPN on rank 2 is already 22 points behind. Winning both races, Allison Young GBR moved up on the 6th place.
In the Lasers Standard, Tom Burton AUS remained on top. New on the 2nd position is the best of yesterday Philipp Buhl GER (ranks 1/7) with the discard in effect. His backlog on Burton is 10 points. Nick Thompson GBR on 3rd follows closely behind.
Today, the last two Qualification Races are on the program before tomorrow's Medal Races. With the World Champion Pavlos Kontides CYP on rank 11 (one point behind rank 10) and Tonci Stipanovic CRO as 13th (8 points behind rank 10), two top favorites will struggle for the Medal Race cut, where Charlie Buckingham USA on 9th has fight to stay within.

 Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Olympic Classes Regatta - Miami FL, USA - Day 2 Moderate winds between 8 and 12k allowed all 10 classes to sail the full program.
Ichino/Takashi JPN defended their first place in the 470 men, but Dahlberg/Bergström SWE reduced their backlog on one point. Japanese lead also in the 470 women with Kondo/Yoshioka JPN. The best of the day Cornudella/Lopez ESP advanced on rank 2.
The skiffs held three races each. In the 49ers, Fantela/Fantela CRO remained on top one point ahead on Fletcher/Bithell GBR and Bildstein/Hussl AUT at equal points. Finishing three times on race rank 1, Victoria Jurczok/Anika Lorenz GER have taken the lead in the 49ersFX. Ragna and Maia Agerup NOR on the 2nd place are 6 points back.
After another three races, the top favorites Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS moved up on rank 1 in the Nacras 17 ahead of John Gimson/Anna Burnett GBR.
The Finns sailed their first three races yesterday and Ioannis Mitakis GRE has taken the lead one point ahead of the trio Alican Kaynar TUR, Ed Wright GBR and Giles Scott GBR.
With two bullets in three races, Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI is on the first position in the RS:X men windsurfers 2 points head of Pawel Tarnowski POL on 2nd. In the RS:X 2omen windsurfers, Noga Geller ISR is the clear leader with three race wins in front of Stefania Elfutina RUS.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Olmpic Classes Regatta - Miami FL, USA - Day 2, 7th and 8th for USA Moderate wind from 8 to 12kn prevailed yesterday on Biscayne Bay and the Lasers Standard completed another two races, while the Radials sailed three heats, as they were without results after the first day.
Victoria Andrulyte UKR, day ranks 2 and 6 (and a discarded 17th) is the first leader in the Radials 2 points ahead of Valentina Balbi ITA. Vasileia Karachaliou GRE is on the 3rd place.
In the Lasers Standard, the Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS moved up on top ahead of Nick Thompson GBR and Thomas Saunders NZL, all three discarding the bad result of the opening day's race 2.

- Laser Radial: Paige Railey USA 8th, Isabella Bertold CAN 16th

 Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Olympic Classes Regatta - Miami FL, USA - Day 1, top-10 USA interim's ranks in Laser men, 49erFX, Nacra and 470 men After some delays, the first races of the 2018 Miami Olympic Classes Worldcup Regatta were started on Biscayne Bay in light and fickle winds yesterday. The RS:X, Laser Radials and Finns remained without results.
The 470s completed one race and the Japanese proved to be the specialists in these conditions. In the 470 men, Naoki Ichino/Hasegawa Takashi JPN finished first ahead of Luke Patience/Chris Grube GBR, in the 470 women, Ai Kondo/Miho Yoshioka JPN are in the lead ahead of Yahel Wallach/Shahar Tibi ISR.
In the 49ers, Sime Fantela/Mihovil Fantela CRO moved on top with the ranks 1 and 5 with a 2 points' advantage on Diego Botin/Iago Lopez ESP. In the 49erFX, the experienced teams are already in front with Ragna und Maia Agerup NOR leading ahead of Victoria Jurczok/Anika Lorenz GER.
Longtime class dominators are on top in the Nacras 17 with Thomas Czajak/Barbara Matz AUT 1st and Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS 2nd.
Japanese lead also in the RS:X women windsurfers with Fujiko Onishi JPN, winning the only race ahead of Nora Geller ISR.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Olympic Classes Regatta - Miami FL, USA - Day 1, Buckingham USA 5th Light and fickle winds prevailed on Biscayne Bay on the first day of the Miami Olympic Classes Worldcup Regatta and three classes remained without valid results, among them the Lasers Radial. The Lasers Standard however completed two races with the big-breeze specialist Philipp Buhl GER on top with the day ranks 6 and 3. The 2nd-ranked Loïc Queyroux FRA is already 8 points back. Some of the favorites had a difficult day, Tom Burton AUS follows on rank 14, Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA on rank 32, Pavlos Kontides CYP is only 28th and Tonci Stipanovic CRO even 48th.
The best North Americans by nation are Charlie Buckingham USA 5th, Robert Davis 33rd and Yanic Gentry MEX 42nd.

 Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Olympic Classes Regatta - Miami FL, USA - start today Today begins the second Act of the Olympic Classes Worldcup 2018 in Miami FL with 540 participants from 50 nations on the entry lists, among them the top athletes in all 10 events. A special interest goes to the comeback of the former Laser Radial Olympic Champion Anna Tunnicliffe Tobias USA, this time as crew on the 49FX with Paris Henken USA.
The forecast predicts moderate winds for today's first races, increasing during the rest of the week with a Northeasterly of up to 22kn.
