Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Finals - Marseille FRA - Final results

The Marseille World Cup Final.came to a close yesterday with the Medal Races of the 470s, the Finns and the two Laser fleets. Light and shifty winds hindered the process. The Medal Race of 470 women could not be sailed. Hannah Mills / Eilidh McIntyre GBR won ahead of Mas-Depares / Cantero ESP and Berta / Caruso ITA. In the 470s With a 2nd place in the Medal Race Matthew Belcher / Will Ryan AUS won the series comfortably. Xammar / Rodriguez ESP and Okada / Hokazono JPN occupy the places of honor. With a bit of luck after a messed up start, Jorge Zarif BRA won the Medal Race in the Finns[/url ] and thus also the overall ranking. Josh Junior NZL and Andy Maloney NZL follow in second and third place.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Finals - Marseille FRA - Final results The World Cup final in Marseille ended yesterday with the Medal Races held in light and shifty winds. Whilst there was no change on the podium in the Laser Radial - Emma Plasschaert BEL won by a clear margin on Maria Erdi HUN and Tuula Tenkanen FIN, there was a close and decisive final race in the Laser Standard Only the GPS analysis of the finish line proved that Philipp Buhl GER finished his race a few centimeters ahead of Hermann Tomasgaard NOR and thus also won the overall standings with one point ahead. Bronze goes to Elliot Hanson GBR.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup - Finals - Marseille FRA - Day 5 In a moderate seabreeze the two Laser fleets yesterday finished their qualifications for todays medal races. Change on top of the Laser Standard after former leader Nick Thompson GBR booked a second double digit result. Hermann Tomasgaard NOR is now leading just one point ahead of Philipp Buhl GER, Thompson is another 2 points back on 3. In the hunt for gold also Elliot Hanson GBR on 4th just 8 points back.
In the Laser Radial Emma Plasschaert BEL is on the way to victory. Her 16 points of advance on Maria Erdi HUN should be sufficiont to stay ahead today. The Hungarian herself will grab the silver medal, she is 17 points ahead of Tuula Tenkanen FIN. Maud Jayet SUI - yesterday daily first by posting a 1st and a 3rd. Moved up to 4th just one point behind Tenkanen. Just one point more behind on 5th Veronika Andrulyte LTU. All rankings, the daily report and the videos.

Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Finals - Marseille FRA - Day 4

Yesterday, the sunshine and the seabreeze (12-15kn) were back and 3-4 races could be sailed. For the Nacra-17-Cats and the windsurfers the qualification for today's Medal Races is complete. The other classes will finish their qualifying today. With 4 race wins, Ruggero Tita / Catarina Banti ITA had an outstanding day in the Nacra 17. They are going to the medal race with a 13 points lead on John Gimson / Anna Burnett GBR, Vittorio Bisarro / Maelle Frascari ITA are a further 2 points behind. Riley Gibbs / Louisa Chafee USA and Ben Saxton / Nicola Boniface GBR managed also to qualify for the medal race. The Windsurf Men fleet is dominated by the French: Pierre Le Coq FRA goes along 11 points ahead of Thomas Goyard FRA into the medal race, Louis Giard FRA follows another 5 points behind. More interesting will be the decision among the Windsurfer Women: Lilian De Geus NED is just 2 Points ahead of Katy Spychakow ISR. Another 4 points behind is Emma Wilson GBR who still has chances to win. Two race wins yesterday for the leaders Matthew Belcher / Will Ryan AUS in the 470s Men Malte Winkel / Matti Cipra GER are in second 9 points behind, Okada / Hokazono JPN are in 3rd place. In the 470s Women Hannah Mills / Eilidh McIntyre GBR extended their lead to 4 points. Mas-Depares / Cantero ESP and Kondo / Yoshioka JPN follow on ranks 2 and 3. The joint leaders in the Finns are Jorge Zarif BRA and Andy Maloney NZL tied at the top, Alican Kaynar TUR in third, 3 points behind.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Finals - Marseille FRA - Day 4 After the rainy lay day on Thursday, the Mediterranean showed off its best conditions yesterday: Sun and around 15kn Seabreeze provided perfect conditions. Both Laser fleets could sail 3 races. With a daily 1 st and a 2 nd, Emma Plaeschart BEL continues to dominate among Laser Radials , she is now 9 points ahead of Maria Erdi HUN. Victoria Andrulyte LTU is third and Marie Barrué FRA follows in fourth.
In the Laser Standard Nick Thompson GBR remains in top spot, in second is Hermann Tomasgaard NOR who, as the best of the day, moved up to second 4 points behind the Englishman. Another 2 points behind is Philipp Buhl GER in 3 rd. Today there are 3 further qualifying races on the schedule. The medal races will be sailed tomorrow Sunday.

Similar conditions again at the World Cup finals in Marseille with sunshine and a moderate Seabreeze. With a daily 2nd and 4th Balazs and Zsombor and Gyapjas HUN moved up into the overall lead 470 Men one point ahead of Xammar / Rodriguez ESP. Hannah Mills / Eilidh McIntyre GBR defended their top spot among the 470 women. As daily best, the second placed Mas-Depares / Cantero ESP moved up to just one point behind them. There are two new joint leaders in the Finns with Jorge Zarif BRA and Josh Junior NZL. Jonathan Lobert FRA has moved up to third place. In the Nacra 17 Ruggero Tita / Caterina Banti ITA moved up to the top on equal points as John Gimson / Anna Burnett GBR. In the windsurfing men Pierre Le Coq FRA leads now with two race wins , in the Windsurfing women Lilian De Geus NED leads 6 points ahead of Stefania Elfutina RUS.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2018 - Finals - Marseille FRA - Day 2 In perfect conditions with sun and 10-12kn Seabreeze, two further races were sailed yesterday at the World Cup final. The Nick Thompson GBR, who had an OCS on the first day of the series, turned it around yesterday with a daily 1st and a 2nd. He took the lead, two points ahead of Lorenzo Chiavarini GBR, followed by Stefan Peschiera PER in third place. Thanks to race victory Philipp Buhl GER improved to 5th overall. In the Laser Radial Maria Erdi HUN with the ranks 1 and 2 performer of the day. She closed the gap to the leading Emma Plaeschart BEL to one point. Allison Young GBR is now 3rd overall.

Sunshine and the classic Marseille seabreeze of around 15kn dominated the opening day of the Olympic Worldcup Finals. The dinghies sailed 2 races, the windsurfers and catamarans could complete three races. In the 470er men Jordi Xammar/Nicolas Rodriguez ESP are leading one point ahead of Tetsuya Isozaki/Akira Takayanagi JPN, in the womens 470 Hannah Mills/Eilidh McIntyre GBR are 5 points clear of 3 boats on equal points: Cornudella/Lopez ESP, Berta/Caruso ITA and Mas-Depares/Cornero ESP. Atlantic Brugman/Nora Brugman, the only US boat in this event are currently in 15th place. In the Finn Nenad Bugarin CRO took the lead followed by Alican Kaynar TUR and Josh Junior NZL. After 3 races in the Nacra 17 the experienced teams are on top: Vittorio Bissaro/Maelle Frascari ITA are leading one point ahead of John Gimson/Anna Burnett GBR. Pavel Tarnowski POL is leading the windsurf men, lilian De Geus NED and Hei Man CHN share the lead in the RS:X-Women.

 Laser - Olympic World Cup - Finals - Marseille FRA - Day 1 In a Seabreeze of around 15kn the finals of the Olympic Worldcup in Marseille started with two races for both Olympic Laser Fleets. In the Laser Standard Michael Beckett GBR and Hermann Tomasgaard NOR share the lead on equal points, Giovanni Coccoluto ITA is one point behind in third. Favourite Nick Thompson GBR has to count a premature start and is back in 16th at the moment. The top cracks from down under are not present.
In the Laser Radial Emma Plaeschart BEL and Tuula Tenkanen FIN are leading on equal points, Manami Doi JPN follows in 3rd. Missing in Marseille is Olympic Champion Marit Bouwmeester NED.

Olympic Worldcup - Finals - Marseille FRA - Start today

 Olympic Worldcup - Finals - Marseille FRA - Start today The final of the 2018 Olympic World Cup series starts today in Marseille, the Olympic sailing venue in 2024. The Top 20 respectively top 25 sailors of each class will feature, although 49ers and 49ersFX will not compete.
The United States is represented by one boat only. Atlantic Brugman and Nora Brugman will be competing in the 470 women class.
