Olympic Worldcup 2020 - Act 2 - Miami FL, USA - Final results, 4 Medals and an Olympic 470 women berth

 Olympic Worldcup 2020 - Act 2 - Miami FL, USA - Final results, 4 Medals and an Olympic 470 women berth Act 2 of the Olympic Classes Worldcup was concluded yesterday with the Medal Races sailed in light winds. In all classes, the North America Olympic nation berths were at stake as well. ----- The most exciting race was in the 470 men where six teams had an option for victory. Winning the Medal Race, Jordi Xammar/Nicolas Rodriguez ESP climbed on rank 1, tied with Okada/Hokazono JPN on rank 2. Belcher/Ryan AUS had to content themselves with the 3rd place. After an OCS disqualification, McNay/Hughes USA dropped on rank 8. ----- Camille Lecointre/Aloise Retornaz FRA won the 470 woman Medal Race as well and finished as superior overall winners ahead of Mrak/Macarol SLO and Skrzypulec/Ogar POL. Carmen and Emma Cowles USA are 8th overall having passed Atlantic and Nora Brugman USA as 9th. ----- Caleb Paine USA was the premature winner in the Finns ahead of Kyle Martin CAN and Luke Muller USA. ----- Winning the Laser Standard Medal Race, Stefano Peschiera PER advanced on top, replacing Francisco Guaragno ARG on rank 1. Enrique Jose Arathoon ESA (El Salvador) finished as 3rd. ----- In the Lasers Radial, Vasileia Karachaliou GRE, leading the fleet in the final downwind leg, was sanctioned for pumping and the overall victory went to Erika Reineke USA. Nethra Kumanan IND, winner of the Medal Race, moved up on rank 3. ----- Pedro Pascual USA dominated the RS:X men windsurfers ahead of Ignacio Berenguer MEX and Juozas Bernotas LTU. ----- A superior first place also for Demita Vega de Lille MEX in the RS:X women windsurfers with Mariana Aguilar MEX and Megumi Komine JPN on the ranks 2 and 3. Nikola Girke CAN finished 4th, Farrah Hall USA descended on 5th after an OCS penalty. ----- All ranking lists.

 Olympic Worldcup 2020 - Act 2 - Miami FL, USA - Day 5, US athletes line up for Medals today On a sunny Friday, the last qualification series races were held in a light 5-6kn breeze and temperatures in the mid-70s. The 470s and Lasers Radial completed one, the Finns two races. There was no racing for the Laser or RS:X fleets. Today, the Medal Races are on the program. ----- The situation in the 470 Men is fully open with Belcher/Ryan AUS and Okada/Hokazono JPN on top at equal points and Dahlberg/Bergström SWE (3 points back) and Xammar/Rodriguez ESP (4 points back) fighting for the Medals in the double-point-no-discard race. Even McNay/Hughes USA another 2 points behind on 5th could have a hand on a medal with a top finish. In the duel for the 2020 Olympic berth, CAN (Chaplin-Saunders/Bone rank 23) had the upper hand on MEX. ----- In the 470 Women, Lecointre/Retornaz FRA have a safe 9 point lead on Bozi/Klonaridou GRE before the Medal Race with the ranks 2 to 5 separated by 4 points only. Winning the last race, Atlantic and Nora Brugman 8th overtook Carmen and Emma Cowles 9th before the crucial Medal Race of today. The Olympic berth is safe and the trials ending at the 2020 Worlds will decide which of the three USA 470 teams will go to Tokyo. ----- In the Finns, the overall winner is Caleb Paine USA 23 points ahead of the tied Kyle Martin CAN and Luke Muller USA. Juan Perez Soltero MEX has now a hand on the Olympia ticket as his direct opponent Rockall Evans BER did not finish the last race and is now 22 points behind the Mexican. ----- In the Lasers Standard, Francisco Guaragna ARG kept a 6 point advance on Stefano Peschiera PER. Andrew Lewis TTB on 4th with a 3 point advance on Robert Davis CAN will endavour to secure the Tokyo ticket for Trinidad Tobago today. ----- In the Lasers Radial, the fight for rank 1 is tight with Erika Reineke USA now only 2 points ahead of Vasileia Karachaliou GRE. With a 5 point backlog, Matilda Talluri ITA remains in the race for victory as well. Qualified for the Medal Race, Elena Oetling MEX rank 8 has grasped the Olympic berth for MEX. ----- 11 points is the advantage of Pedro Pacual USA on Ignacio Berenguer MEX, both nations qualified for Tokyo, in the RS:X men windsurfers. ----- In the RS:X women windsurfers, Demita Vega De Lille MEX remains on top still 3 points ahead of Megumi Komine JPN and 5 points in front of Farrah Hall USA.  Olympic Worldcup 2020 - Act 2 - Miami FL, USA - Day 4, light winds, reduced program After three windy and rather cold days, the breeze failed to cooperate for most of the partly rainy Thursday, and racing was limited after lengthy postponements. The 470s and Laser Radial did not compete at all, the windsurfers and Lasers Standard finished one race each. ----- Only the Finns could validate two races with Caleb Paine USA adding two more bullets on his results sheet, extending his lead on Luke Muller USA on 16 points. A major setback had Rockall Evans BER (UFD-15/11) overtaken by Juan Perez Soltero MEX now 9 points in front of the Bermudian in the duel for Olympia. ----- In the Lasers Standard, the day win went to Hugh Macrae CAN ahead of Francisco Guaragna ARG who kept his overall lead. Andrew Lewis TTB now on 4th sailed his discard result (17th), but kept a 3 point advance on Robert Davis CAN in the duel for the 2020 Olympic berth. ----- In the RS:X Men windsurfers, the winner was again Pedro Pascual USA increasing his lead on Ignacio Berenguer MEX. ----- In the RS:X Women windsurfers, Megumi Komine JPN moved up on rank 2 with a bullet yesterday, 3 points behind the still leading Demita Vega De Lille MEX. Unusual cold and blustery conditions prevailed on Biscayne Bay yesterday at the Miami World Cup Regatta. ----- In the 470 men, the multiple Olympic and World Champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS have taken the lead with two race wins. Dahlberg/Bergström SWE and Mantis/Kagialis GRE follow on the ranks 2 and 3. McNay/Hughes USA are up on 7th with a 2nd rank in race 6. Ramsay/Lowden CAN kept the 23rd place, but Guzman/Guzman MEX rank 25, their opponent for the North American Olympic berth, had a black day and are now 14 points behind the Canadians. ----- In the 470 women, Camille Lecointre/Aloise Retornaz FRA won again both heats and are now clearly in front. Skrzypulec/Ogar POL and Mrak/Macarol SLO follow on 2nd and 3rd. Minor changes in the rankings of the three USA teams fighting for the Tokyo Olympic ticket: the young Cowles/Cowles had their worst day but remained 8th and even exended their lead on Brugman/Brugman 10th on 5 points. Another 3 points back follow Barnes/Dallman-Weis as 12th. ----- In the Finns, Caleb Paine USA still controls his challenger Luke Muller USA for the US Olympic ticket with a solid 8 point lead. Mantis/Kagialis GRE advanced on rank 2, Doi/Kimura JPN and the Olympic and World Champions Belcher/Ryan AUS follow on the ranks 3 and 4. McNay/Hughes USA are on rank 9. Ramsay/Lowden CAN 23rd and Guzman/Guzman MEX 24th fight for the remaining 2020 Olympic berth. ----- In the 470 Women, the dominators of the 2019 regattas (Pre-Olympics, Worldcup Japan, European Championship) Camille Lecointre/Aloise Retornaz FRA remain on top inspite of a premature start disqualification. Skrzypulec/Ogar POL progressed on rank 2, Löwe/Markfort GER are now 3rd.  Olympic Worldcup 2020 - Act 2 - Miami FL, USA - Day 1 Perfect Biscayne Bay conditions prevailed on day one of the Miami Olympic Classes Regatta, the second event of the 2020 World Cup, yesterday, and all seven classes present completed two races. ----- In the good quality 470 Men fleet, the first leaders are Dahlberg/Bergström SWE 5 points ahead of Sozykin/Gribanov RUS. ----- In the 470 Women, Lecointre/Retornaz FRA won both races. Berta/Caruso ITA and Löwe/Markfort GER are the first persuers. ----------- In all other classes, the race for the last North American 2020 Olympic berths is key. The fleets are mostly very small with only a few participants from other continents. ----- In the Lasers Standard, Joaquin Blanco ESP won both heats. Andrew Lewis TTO (Trinidad/Tobago) and Stefano Peschiera PER (Peru) are the first challengers. ----- In the Lasers Radial, Viktoria Andrulyte LTU (Lithuania) is first ahead of Nethra Kumanan IND (India) and Ebru Bolat ROU (Romania). ----- Emphasis for the US Sailing Team is in the Finns, where the duel between Caleb Paine USA - 2016 Olympic Bronze medalist - and Luke Muller USA for the Olympic Team selection is underway.
