ILCA 6 & 7 - European Olympic Qualifier -Vilamoura POR - Final results - Charlie Buckingham (USA) 7th, Paige Railey (USA) 10th

The US Sailing Team ILCA Olympians ready for more in 2021! ------------
In fresh winds around 20kn, the European Qualifiers for the last Olympic starting places came to an end yesterday. ----- In the ILCA6, Anne-Marie Rindom DEN was a class of her own finishing 39 points ahead of Josefin Olsson SWE and Manami Doi JPN in 2nd and 3rd. ----- The ranks 27 and 15 yesterday kept Paige Railey USA (St Francis YC) on rank 10 overall. Sarah Douglas CAN (Ashbridge Bay YC) remained in 30th. No change either for Maura Dewey CAN (RVYC) on position 45, while Emma Oetling Ramirez MEX (Secretaria de Marina) advanced to rank 62 among the 89 participants. ----- Israel and Portugal qualified for the Games already before the Final races. ----- In ILCA 7, Philipp Buhl GER climbed on rank one on the final day just one point ahead of the veteran and multiple champion Robert Scheidt BRA. Michael Beckett GBR followed in third place. ----- Charlie Buckingham USA (NHYC) finished the European Qualifier on the good 7th position, tied with the ranks 5 and 6. Practically no position changes for the Canadians on the final day with Liam Bruce CAN (Port Credit YC/CSDS) in 80th and James Juhasz CAN in 103rd among the 139 participants. ----- The two Olympic berths went to Spain (Joel Rodriguez ESP, 9th) and the Netherlands (Duko Bos NED, 11th). . ----- All rankings, the final report and the video of the day.

With the strongest winds so far around 20kn, the final series continued yesterday in Vilamoura with 2 races each. ----- In ILCA 6, Anne-Marie Rindom DEN was second-best of the day with 3rd and 4th places and extended her lead to 28 points. Josefin Olsson SWE has moved up to second place, with Manami Doi JPN 9 points behind in 3rd. Maud Jayet SUI in 4th place is 13 points off the podium. ----- Paige Railey USA (St Francis YC), ranks 10 and 23 yesterday, succeeded to keep an overall top-10 position, i.e. rank 9. Sarah Douglas CAN (Ashbridge Bay YC) with mid-gold fleet finishes is slightly up on 30th. Maura Dewey CAN (RVYC) remains in the 45th position. Emma Oetling Ramirez MEX (Secretaria de Marina) occupies now 65th place. . ----- In ILCA 7, Michael Beckett GBR defended his position at the top despite moderate results (32/17). Robert Scheidt BRA is now 14 points behind in 2nd. Another 5 points back, Philipp Buhl GER has moved up to 3rd place. ----- Second-best (ranks 8 and 6) in the breeze yesterday, Charlie Buckingham USA (NHYC) moved up on rank 7 considerably reducing the backlog on the podium to 8 points only. The final races of the European Olympic Qualifiers in Vilamoura started yesterday in light winds. ----- In the ILCA 7, Michael Beckett GBR took the lead with 2nd and 3rd places, and his lead over Filip Jurisic CRO is now already 17 points. Tonci Stipanovic CRO has moved up to third place. ----- Only one point behind the podium follows Joel Rodriguez ESP, as the first of the not yet qualified nations. Duko Bos NED in 12th holds the second Olympic berth. Wannes Van Laer BEL lurks 5 points behind in the 13th. ----- Charlie Buckingham USA (NHYC) is again up on rank 11 with a 7th rank in the second race of the day, but the backlog on the podium remains at 21 points. Liam Bruce CAN (Port Credit YC/CSDS) had a good day in the Silver fleet and progressed to 82nd place overall. James Juhasz CAN however lost 7 ranks and is now 107th. ------- In ILCA 6, Anne-Marie Rindom DEN booked another race win, and her lead over Marie Barrué FRA is now 13 points. Maud Jayet SUI, 2nd and 15th yesterday, reclaimed rank 3. ----- Rank 34 - her discard - in the second race of the day slipped Paige Railey USA (St Francis YC) back on 8th overall. Even worse day for Sarah Douglas CAN (Ashbridge Bay YC), ranks 44 and 30, relegating her on the 35th place. Maura Dewey CAN (RVYC) remains in the 45th position. Emma Oetling Ramirez MEX (Secretaria de Marina) dropped on 72nd place.
Charlie Buckingham USA (NHYC) up on rank 11 again with a 7th rank in the second race of the day, but the backlog on the podium remains at 21 points. Liam Bruce CAN (Port Credit YC/CSDS) had a good day in the Silver fleet and progressed to 82nd place overall. James Juhasz CAN however lost 7 ranks and is now 107th.

Both classes sailed two races in a freshening sea breeze in Vilamoura yesterday. ----- The ILCA 7s opened the day, dominated by Filip Jurisic CRO with ranks 1 and 4. Michael Beckett GBR and Maxim Nikolaev RUS follow 3 points behind the leader in 2nd and 3rd. Robert Scheidt BRA, leader of yesterday, dropped back to rank 8. ----- Charlie Buckingham USA (NHYC) remains in 13th place overall, only 5 points behind rank 2. James Juhasz CAN advances to rank 90, while Liam Bruce CAN (Port Credit YC/CSDS) lost some positions dropping on 97th. ----- The two Olympic starting places are still held by Spain with Joel Rodriguez on rank 6 and Belgium with William De Smet as 9th. ----- In ILCA 6, Anne-Marie Rindom DEN is now alone on top after another race win. The best of the day, however, was Maud Jayet SUI (5/1) moving up on second place, 7 points behind the first. Marie Barrué FRA is still on rank 3. ----- Winning the second race of the day, Paige Railey USA (St Francis YC) moved four ranks up on 12th. With two race wins each in their groups, Vasileia Karachaliou GRE and Anne-Marie Rindom DEN took the lead. Marie Barrué FRA follows with two 4th places on rank 3. The open Olympic berth positions are held by Carolina João POR (rank 21) and Ebru Bolat ROU (rank 56). ----- Paige Railey USA (St Francis YC) follows in 16th. ILCA 7 & ILCA 6 - European Olympic Qualifiers - Vilamoura POR - Practice Race today with participants from USA, CAN and MEX

 ILCA 7 & ILCA 6 - European Olympic Qualifiers - Vilamoura POR - Practice Race today with participants from USA, CAN and MEX In the south of Portugal, the practice race today marks the start of the qualifiers for the remaining European Olympic nation berths of the ILCAs (Lasers). The fleets are very competitive, missing only the strong Oceanians, as well as the Asians and Africans, who have just sailed their Continental Qualifiers in Oman. ----- In the ILCA 7, 143 participants from 40 nations and 3 continents will start. The North Americans on the list of participants are Charlie Buckingham USA, Liam Bruce CAN and James Juhasz CAN. ----- In the ILCA 6, 138 participants from 38 nations will be competing. Paige Railey USA, Sarah Douglas CAN, Maura Dewey CAN and Elena Oetling Ramirez MEX represent North America. ----- The entry lists. ----- The event website mainly provides information on the Corona measures that made the event possible.
