Olympic Worldcup - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - Final results

The Medal Races were decided yesterday in very light winds. The 470s and the 49erFX didn't sail at all. ----- Camille Lecointre/Jérémy Mion FRA won the qualification of the 470 by a narrow one-point margin over Jordi Xammar/Nora Brugman ESP. Malte and Anastasyi Winkel GER follow in third place. ----- Michael Beckett GBR was already the winner of the ILCA 7 before the Medal Race. Philipp Buhl GER and Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA took the places of honor. ----- In the ILCA 6, Maria Erdi HUN took victory ahead of Zoë Thompson AUS and Matilda Nicholls GBR. Maud Jayet SUI improved to 7th place. ----- Diego Botin/Florian Trittel ESP won the 49ers, while Hernan Umpierre/Fernando Diaz URU moved up to 2nd place thanks to their victory in the Medal Race. ----- The 49erFX medal race was also canceled: Jana Germani/Giorgia Bertuzzi ITA narrowly won by one point ahead of Helen Naes/Marie Ronningen NOR. ----- In the Nacra 17, Tito Ruggero/Caterina Banti ITA also remained unbeaten in Palma. Gian-Luigi Ugolini/Maria Giubilei ITA and John Gimson/Anna Burnet GBR completed the podium. ----- In the Kite Foil, Max Maeder SGP was also unbeaten in Palma. Ricardo Pianosi ITA and Denis Taradin CYP followed in 2nd and 3rd place. ----- In a dramatic medal race, Briana Whitehead AUS managed to oust Daniela Moroz USA from the top spot in the Kite Foil women's. The qualifications for today's Medal Races (from 10am CET, via Live-Tracker) were completed yesterday in moderate winds. Two overall winners have already been decided: Michael Beckett GBR has an unassailable lead of 36 points over Philipp Buhl GER in the ILCA 7. He is followed by Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA, who is 8 points behind and 17 points ahead of Olympic champion Matthew Wearn AUS. Gauthier Verhulst SUI is 47th, Martin Verhulst SUI follows in 120th place of the 196 participants. In the Nacra 17, Ruggero Tita/Caterina Banti ITA demonstrated their superiority once again: after a slow start to the series (29/17 on the first day), they turned up the heat and made everything clear early yesterday with two race wins, their lead over Gian-Luigi Ugolini/Maria Giubilai ITA is 24 points. Andrea Aschieri/Anja Camusso SUI are 36th, Axel Grandjean/Noëmi Fehlmann SUI follow in 40th place. There are several duels in the 470 today: Camille Lecointre/Jérémy Mion FRA and Jordi Xammar/Nora Brugman ESP, who are just one point behind, are fighting for victory. Karl Maeder SUI came 37th, while Daniela Moroz USA won the women's kite foil qualification ahead of Briana Whitehead AUS and Leonie Meyer GER. Mina Mobekk NOR and Maya Gisler NOR are tied for the lead in the iQ Foil Windsurfer. Pawel Tarnowski POL clearly leads the men's classification, followed by a French trio led by Nicolas Goyard FRA. Seabreeze between 10 and 14 knots characterised the third day of the Palma World Cup. The ILCAs began with their final races in Gold and Silverfleet. Michael Beckett GBR maintained his lead in ILCA 7, Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA moved up to second place, 10 points behind. One point behind him, Philipp Buhl GER is now 3rd. Gauthier Verhulst SUI is now 49th, Martin Verhulst SUI follows in 126th place of the 198 participants. Mara Stransky AUS has taken the lead in ILCA 6, followed by Matilda Nicholls GBR in 2nd place on equal points. Maud Jayet SUI was one of the day's best with 9th and 8th place and moved up to 12th. Anja Von Allmen SUI was moving up to 27th place. Rosine Baudet SUI too is in the top half of the rankings in 57th place. The experienced teams advanced in the 470: Anton Dahlberg/Lovisa Karlsson SWE took the lead with two race wins, Jordi Xammar/Nora Brugman ESP and Camille Lecointre/Jérémy Mion FRA follow in 3rd place, with Malte and Anastassiya Winkel just one point behind in 4th place. In the 49er, Jack Ferguson/John Paul AUS maintained their lead, while Hernan Umpierre/Fernando Diz URU moved up to 2nd place with just one point behind. A further point behind them are Andrew Mollerus/Ian McDiarmid USA in 3rd place. After the windy start day, classic Palma thermal conditions with moderate winds between 8 and 12 knots prevailed yesterday. All classes were in action. ----- The 470s started late in the afternoon and could only finish one race. No changes at the top: Malte and Anastasyia Winkel GER held on to the lead, with Vita Heathcote/Chris Gruber GBR and Jordi Xammar/Nora Brugman ESP close behind. With a 7th place in the race, Yves Mermod/Maja Siegenthaler SUI improved to 18th place. ----- In the ILCA 7, Michael Beckett GBR took the lead in his group with two race wins. Philipp Buhl GER and Matthew Wearn AUS share 2nd place 4 points behind him. Gauthier Verhulst SUI moved up to 41st place with 8th and 11th ranks on the day. Martin Verhulst SUI is now 109th of the 193 participants. ----- In ILCA 6, Emma Plasschaert BEL maintained her lead. Mara Stransky AUS (2 race wins yesterday), Matilda Nicholls GBR, and Chiara Benini ITA share 2nd place with equal points. Maud Jayet SUI lost a few places and is now 19th. Stormy start to the Trofeo Princesa Sofia: The first World Cup of the year began yesterday o Palma Bay in a 25-knot breeze with peaks of over 30 knots and big waves. Only 5 of the 10 classes were competing ----- Malte and Anastassia Winkel GER took the lead in the 470 with 1st and 2nd place ahead of Vita Heathcoat/Chris Grube GBR. Jordi Xammar/Nora Brugman ESP followed in 3rd place. Yves Mermod/Maja Siegenthaler SUI occupy the 19th place out of 62 teams. ----- In ILCA 6, Emma Plaschaert BEL won both races in her group, Hannah Andersohn GER follows 2 points behind, and Chiara Benini ITA is 3rd. Maud Jayet SUI is 16th (12/6), Anja Von Allmen SUI 32nd, and Rosine Baudet SUI 55th, also in the top half of the ranking list of 116 participants. ----- In the ILCA 7, Philipp Buhl GER won both races in his group. One point behind him, Michael Beckett GBR and Hermann Tomasgaard NOR share 2nd place.
