IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2016/17 - Day 48

After 47 days and 32 minutes, the leading Armel Le Cléac'h FRA rounded Cape Horn smashing the previous record established during the last Vendée four years ago by 5 days and 5 hours. Tomorrow Sunday, Alex Thompson GBR will reach the Atlantic Ocean too. His backlog on Le Cléac'h FRA has grown to 743 nm. The rest of the fleet will have to survive heavy storms in the next days, as three low pressure systems with winds of up to 50 kn are ahead. Rich Wilson USA is still well underway on rank 15 and will advance on rank 14 as Paul Meilhat FRA still ranked 7th will soon abandon the race with his damaged boat.
