 VOR65 Ocean Race 2017/18 Leg 2 Day 7
After a race week, the seven teams are approaching the Equator. The innertropical convergence zone slowed the fleet substantially down and the boats are now even closer together. 'Dongfeng' (Charles Caudrelier FRA) was still first this morning 3,4nm ahead of 'Mapfre' (Xavi Fernandez ESP) and 'Vestas' (Charlie Enright USA), 'Brunel' (Bouwe Bekking NED) and 'AkzoNobel' (Simeon Tienpont NED) were only about 10nm behind. Even the backmarker 'Turn the tide on plastic' with Dee Caffari GBR cut the backlog in half on 47nm. Today, the teams will reach the southern trade winds and the fleet will again be stretch over a longer distance.
