Finn European Championship 2018 Cadiz ESP Day 5
Yesterday the start of the races was delayed due to heavy rain. Once the skies cleared a moderate wind of 12 to 14 knots established and racing got under way. In the now familiar 3-meter swell just one race could be completed in the afternoon. Ben Cornish GBR took the day's win again, after losing his race victory on the previous day, when the race was cancelled by the jury. He advanced to rank 7 overall and is still in with a chance for the bronze medal. The top two, Nicholas Heiner NED and Ed Wright GBR will go into today’s medal race to decide who wins gold and who wins silver. With just 5 points between them and forecasted winds of 25-30kn there should be a spectacular duel today (start at 9.30h CET). All competitors between current 3rd Max Salminen SWE and 7th (Ben Cornish GBR) are still in with a shout for the bronze medal. Among them is Caleb Paine USA, who is currently 4th overall, with the same score as Salminen in third.
Unfortunately, Luke Muller USA had a PMS yesterday and will go into today’s classification race ranked 29th overall, respectively 5th among the young U23 sailors.
Whether the classification race can take place today is questionable as the weather forecast looks really rough. The ranking and the daily report.
