World Sailing Midyear Meeting London GBR Olympic sailing in danger
In early May, the World Sailing Midyear-Meeting will debate on the future of Olympic Sailing discussing the 10 events to be held as from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris/Marseille. 65 submissions (follow Papers and Submissions) will be on the table and some of them suggest to replace half of the existing events ! Popular classes with considerable local and national fleets such as the Finn, 470s shall be eliminated and be replaced by events such as kiteboarding, two-person offshore racing or team racing. Some of them are far from reality on elite sailing around the World as e.g. the one from US Sailing.
An extensive report by sail-world.com critised the confusing process initiated by the federation. Read also two comments of the past-ISAF President Paul Henderson CAN 'world-sailing-has-it-wrong' and 'an important perspective' on this subject.
