470 - European Championship 2021 - Vilamoura POR - Day 4

Perfect conditions prevailed again yesterday in the south of Portugal with moderate winds and summer temperatures above 25°C. Today, the last two qualifying races for tomorrow's Medal Races will be sailed. After 9 races, exciting battles for the titles are ahead. ----- In the 470 women, Silvia Mas-Depares/Patricia Cantero ESP are only 3 points ahead of Camille Le Cointre/Aloise Retornaz FRA. 10 points behind, Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI in 3rd place are still in the title race. ----- Exploiting their full potential finishing 2nd in the last race of the day, Nikole Barnes/Lara Dallman-Weiss USA (St. Francis YC/St. Thomas YC) advanced to 12th reducing the gap on rank 10 to 4 points. The stars of the day before, Carmen + Emma Cowles USA (Larchmont YC), had their worst day of the series (14th and 18th in the 18-boat fleet), tumbling 7 ranks down to 14th. ----- Thanks to a day's win, Kevin Peponnet/Jérémy Mion FRA reclaimed the 470 men lead, but Paul Snow-Hansen/Daniel Willcox NZL follow just one point behind. The Olympic Champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS 9 points back in 3rd remain in the race for Gold. ----- Stuart McNay/David Hughes USA (Trevor Moore Foundation) in 17th are 20 points - too far - from the Medal Race cut. No progress for Jacob Saunders/Oliver Bone CAN (RNSYS/CYC/Trevor Moore Foundation) and Shawn Harvey/Augie Dale USA (Oyster Bay 470 Team) in 22nd and 23rd among the 29 teams. ----- With two 4th places in the 470 Mixed, the largest fleet with 34 boats, Theres Dahnke/Matti Cipra GER could reduce the gap to Nitai Hasson/Saar Tamir ISR to 5 points. The ranks 3-7, with Louisa Nordstrom/Trevor Bornarth USA (Oyster Bay 470 Team) still in 5th, are only 4 points apart. ----- All rankings, the daily report and the video of the day.
