Olympic Classes - World Championship 2023 - The Hague NED - Day 1

Moderate winds, first around 10kn, later freshening up to 15kn, and strong tidal current characterised the first day of the joint World Championships of the Olympic classes. 49er, 49erFX and the Nacra-17 catamarans each completed 3 races, for the mixed 470s there were two races. With first and fourth place on the day, Keiju Okada/Miho Yoshioka JPN took the lead in the 470, 3 points ahead of Wenjun Deng/Jingsa Wang CHN. Outstanding were the Japanese women with three teams in the top 6. With ranks of the day 7 and 11, Yves Mermod/Maja Siegenthaler SUI are 11th (8th nation), directly behind them on rank 12 are Malte and Anastasiya Winkel GER. Linda Fahrni/Cyril Schüpbach SUI follow on rank 31 of the 64 teams. In the 49er, Nevin Snow/Max Agnese USA and Diego Botin/Florian Trittel ESP won 2 races each in their group. Sébastien Schneiter/Arno De Planta SUI also got off to a good start and are in 9th place with 3rd/3rd/4th place on the day. Joshua Richner/Nilo Schärer SUI even had a race win, they are 39th of the 84 teams. In the 49erFX, three teams share the lead: Isaura Maenhaut/Anouk Goerts BEL, Vilma Bobeck/Rebecca Netzler SWE and Olivia Price/Evie Haseldine AUS each with 1/2 ranks. In the Nacra 17, Olympic champions Ruggero Tita/Caerina Banti ITA won all 3 races in their group, with Paul Kohlhoff/Alica Stuhlemmer GER following in second with two race wins. The two Swiss teams Andrea Aschieri/Anja Camusso SUI and Axel Grandjean/Noëmi Fehlmann SUI struggled. All rankings and the daily report.
