470 - World Championship 2016 - Buenos Aires ARG - Final results - Winners of the USA Team duel are Haeger/Provancha ahead of Bolger/Shevitzand Croatia

470 - World Championship 2016 - Buenos Aires ARG - Final results - Winners of the USA Team duel are Haeger/Provancha ahead of Bolger/Shevitzand Croatia The 470 World Championship on the Rio de la Plata ended yesterday with the Medal Races in moderate winds around 10 kn.
Camille Lecointre/Hélàne Defrance FRA defended their 6 points' advance and won their first World Champion's title. The Olympic Champions Jo Aleh/Polly Powrie NZL finished 3rd yesterday and grasped the Silver Medal. The defending champions Lara Vadlau/Jolanta Ogar AUT had to content themselves with the Bronze Medal, their forth Worlds medal in a row. 10 points was the backlog of Anne Haeger/Briana Provancha USA on Sydney Bolder/Carly Shevitz USA, but at the end of the Championship, Haeger/Provancha had again the upper hand finshing brilliant 2nd in the Medal Race and 6th overall while Bolder/Shevitz ended on the 10th and last place bringing them on the 8th final position.
Rank 5 in the last race was good enough for Sime Fantela/Igor Marenic CRO to earn their second World Champion's title after 2009, their seventh 470 World Champion's medal. Btw, Sime Fantela won the Optimist World Championship 16 years ago. As in the women's category, the Silver Medal went to New Zealand with Paul Snow Hansen/Daniel Willcox NZL, their first Medal. The crew Daniel Willcox continued with a family tradition as his dad was 470 World Champion in 1984 already ! A curiosity occurred on rank 3. Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS took Bronze after six World Champion's titles. But a second Bronze Medal was awarded to Sofian Bouvet/Jérémy Mion FRA, as an error in calculating redress points had been detected, and the French team achieved the same number of points as the Australians.

The Croats were 470 World Champions in 2009 already before the Australian Olympic Champions started their domination with six Worlds titles in a row. 470 - World Championship 2016 - Buenos Aires ARG - Day 4, surprising Bolger/Shevitz USA distance Haeger/Provancha USA

470 - World Championship 2016 - Buenos Aires ARG - Day 4, surprising Bolger/Shevitz USA distance Haeger/Provancha USA For the first time, the day started with enough wind allowing both fleets to complete the full program. An intensive race day with three heats sailed in a 10-12 kn breeze challenged the teams at their utmost. In addition to the unconstant and circling wind, there was 'gardening' on the program, as the huge sea-weed patches influenced the ranking substantially. Today, another two Final Series races are planned to select the 10 best per fleet for Saturday's Medal Races.
With again a race win, Camille Lecointre/Hélène Defrance FRA consolidated the first place in the 470 women. New on rank 2, finishing as day's best on the ranks 7/1/2, are Xiaoli Wang/Lizhu Huang CHN. The USA surprise team Sydney Bolger/Carly Shevitz USA follows on rank 3 in front of the defending champions Vadlau/Ogar AUT. Anne Haeger/Briana Provancha USA had two bad races and dropped on rank 6, 11 points behind Bolger/Shevitz USA. Allie Surrette/Alexandra Ten Hove CAN are 37th.
Leader change in the 470 men, as the previous first Ashenati/Hudson RSA finished three times in the twenties. Snow-Hansen/Willcox NZL are on top ahead of Fantela/Marenic CRO. Belcher/Ryan AUS are now already on 3rd with a 9 points' backlog on the leaders. The battle for the Medal Race will be exciting today, as the ranks 9 to 12 are separated by 9 points only. Amidst this pack are Stu McNay/Dave Hughes USA 9 places up on 10th after a solid day with the ranks 2/8/8. Jacob and Graeme Saunders CAN are up on position 30 again.

470 - World Championship 2016 - Buenos Aires ARG - Day 3, Haeger/Provancha now ahead of Bolger/Shevitz in the US duel

470 - World Championship 2016 - Buenos Aires ARG - Day 3, Haeger/Provancha now ahead of Bolger/Shevitz in the US duel Yesterday, the 470 fleets had again to wait until late in the afternoon due to lack of sufficient wind. A light breeze filled in finally and the men completed two, the women one race.
Surprisingly, Jim Asenathi/Roger Hudson RSA took the overall lead in the men's category with a race win, followed by Onan Barreiros/Juan Curbelo ESP at equal points. Anton Dahlberg/Fredrik Östling SWE are now 6 points behind on rank 3. On the way up are the defending champions Belcher/Ryan AUS, best of the day with the ranks 3 and 6, advancing on the 4th place overall. The ranks 14 and UFD (U-flag disqualification, i.e. 'light black flag') did not bring Stu McNay/Dave Hughes USA one up on 19th much further. Jacob and Graeme Saunders CAN lost three ranks and are now 33rd.
The only race of the women went in favor of the defending champions Lara Vadlau/Jolanta Ogar AUT. New on top overall are now Camille Lecointre/Hélène Defrance FRA. The Austrians and Afrodite Zegers-Kyranakou/Anne-Loes Van Veen NED at equal points are now 2nd and 3rd. Anne Haeger/Briana Provancha USA with a 7th race rank have now again the upper-hand on Sydney Bolger/Carly Shevitz USA finishing only 19th, their discard result. 470 - World Championship 2016 - Buenos Aires ARG - Day 2, for the NorAms, excellent women's results, disappointing men

470 - World Championship 2016 - Buenos Aires ARG - Day 2, for the NorAms, excellent women's results, disappointing men Only late in the afternoon, there was enough wind on the Rio de la Plata to start at least one race per fleet.
In an 8 kn breeze, increasing to 11 kn during the day, Afrodite Zegers-Kyranakou/Anneloes Van Veen NED won the race of the 470 women and climbed on top of the overall rankings, at equal points with the two USA women's teams Bolger/Shewitz USA and Haeger/Provancha USA, sailing their first round of the US qualifications for the Rio Olympics. Bolger/Shewitz USA, always clearly defeated by Haeger/Provancha USA in the important races so far, are sailing the regatta of their live fighting for the Rio berth ! With the discard race activated, some important changes happened in the rankings behind. Lecointre/Defrance FRA moved up on rank 4, Vadlau/Ogar AUT are now already 6th. The defending champions Aleh/Powrie NZL on 11th are not yet where they intended to be, but they are now close to the Medal Race cut. With a 37th race rank, Allie Surrette/Alexandra Ten Hove CAN remain on the last place overall.
Paul Snow-Hansen/Daniel Willcox NZL remained on top of the rankings inspite of a premature start disqualification. Thanks to a 2nd race rank, Dahlberg/Ekström SWE advanced on rank 2. Ashenati/Hudson RSA and Barreiros/Curbelo ESP follow at equal points on the ranks 3 and 4. The defending champions Belcher/Ryan AUS won the only race of the day and start to compensate for the disastrous first race day climbing up on rank 11 overall. Stu McNay/Dave Hughes USA have been out of pace again yesterday with a 22nd place dropping on rank 20 overall. Jacob and Graeme Saunders CAN could not improve their rankings either and are now down on 30th.
