Finn - European Championship 2016 - Barcelona ESP - Final results - Gold for Postma NED, Ramshaw CAN 10th, Paine USA ahead of Railey USA

Finn - European Championship 2016 - Barcelona ESP - Final results - Gold for Postma NED, Ramshaw CAN 10th, Paine USA ahead of Railey USA Pieter-Jan Postma NED concluded the Finn European Championship 2016 with two solid races - rank 8 in the last fleetrace and a 5th place in the Medal Race - and won his first title in an important international championship after a number of podiums such as at the London/Weymouth Olympics 2012. The 2nd position in the Medal Race brought Beresz Zsombor HUN back on a medal place and he earned Silver with just one point on Milan Vujasinovic CRO. Josh Junior NZL however distroyed his medal chances with a failed last fleetrace relegating him on rank 4 overall. Tom Ramshaw CAN had a perfect last day in his first Finn International Championship finishing 3rd in the last fleetrace, qualifiying him for the Medal Race, where he finished 7th, but remained on the 10th place overall with a small backlog on the ranks 8 and 9. The USA Finn sailors however concentrated on the fight for Rio, and in the last race, Caleb Paine 7th and 24th overall had the upperhand on Zach Railey 44th and 29th in the final rankings.

Finn - European Championship 2016 - Barcelona ESP - Day 6

Finn - European Championship 2016 - Barcelona ESP - Day 6 Another light-wind day yesterday at the Finn Europeans in Barcelona with two races completed.
Pieter-Jan Postma NED is the new leader with the day ranks 2 and 6. His advantage on the second-ranked Josh Junior NZL is 10 points before the last race today, and his qualification for the Medal Race is safe whatever happens in the last heat. With the discard in effect, Milan Vujasinovic CRO moved up on rank 3 with an 8 points' backlog on Josh Junior NZL, but only 2 points ahead of Beresz Zsombor HUN. The selection of the 10 best for the Medal Race remains very challenging as the rank 8 to 16 are separated by 16 points only, and most of the contenders have a failed result on their record sheet. A special duel within the Championship is the battle for the USA Rio Olympics selection between Zach Railey USA and Caleb Paine USA. In the second race yesterday, they were matchracing from start to finish terminating the race in the last positions. Zach Railey USA has been disqualified afterwards, but nevertheless, he overtook Caleb Paine USA and is now 10 points ahead of his opponent.

Finn - European Championship 2016 - Barcelona ESP - Day 3

Finn - European Championship 2016 - Barcelona ESP - Day 3 Cool temperatures and rain prevailed yesterday during the fourth race of the Finn Europeans. The unconstant very shifty breeze provoked some major flops with some favorites.
Day winner was Ben Cornish GBR, advancing on rank 4 overall. Josh Junior NZL, the only one with nothing but one-digit results, moved up on top, as the previous leader Milan Vujasinovic CRO finished only 44th dropping on rank 5 for the time being. But with the discard of the worst result after race 5 today, his changes remain intact to regain the lead. Constant results have also been delivered up to now by Berecz Zsombor HUN, who occupies rank 2 with a 9 points' backlog on the first. New on rank 3 is the Olympia medalist Pieter-Jan Postma NED.
Astonishing results by Tom Ramshaw CAN on rank 6 having migrated from the Laser a few months ago only. The duel for the Rio selection between Zach Railey USA, rank 12, and Caleb Paine USA, 7 points back on rank 21 might well change in favor of Paine, who has a 58th place to discard (Railey a 38th).
