The Melges 24 European Championship in Hyères was concluded in a light Eastwind yesterday with the 12th and final race. Chris Rast/Patrick Zaugg/Nikolay Kornev/Danielle Rast/Matteo Ferraglia SUI, premature European Champions after 11 races, remained ashore. In the duel for rank 2, Andrea Pozzi ITA had the upper hand over Michele Ivaldi ITA. On rank 4 at equal points with rank 3 finished Geoff Carveth GBR, leader during almost the whole week.

Fresh Westwinds around 20 kn prevailed yesterday at the Melges-24 Europeans on Hyères Bay. Finishing 2nd and 3rd, Chris Rast USA/SUI - Swiss and USA passport holder and three times Olympian /470 and 49er) for both nations - and his team (Patrick Zaugg, Nikolay Kornev, Danielle Rast and Matteo Ferraglia) kept everything under control and are the premature winners overall with a 17 points' advantage. With the day ranks 1 and 2, Andrea Pozzi ITA moved up on rank at equal points with Geoff Carveth GBR on the 3rd place. Matteo Ivaldi ITA on 4th is only one point behind the podium. After the windy opening day, a moderate Eastwind filled in yesterday, initially around 15 kn, decreasing to 10 kn during the day. Three races were completed again and Geoff Carveth GBR and his team defended the first place with the day ranks 2/4/2. Chris Rast SUI kept the pace of the leader with the ranks 4/3/1 and moved up on the 2nd place overall only 3 points behind the Brit. The 3rd Toonu Toniste EST is already 11 points back.

Sun and summery temperatures prevailed on the first day of the Melges 24 European Championship in Hyères FRA. Three races were sailed in a 15 to 25 kn westwind, and Geoff Carveth GBR and his team are the first leaders.
