The seabreeze on Biscayne Bay filled in very late, a few minutes before the starting time limit, but a number of General Recalls delayed racing to an extent, that a start in time was not possible and the final heat had to be cancelled. Light winds around 8 kn prevailed on Biscayne Bay yesterday during the 5th race of the Starboat Bacardi Cup started again with some delay. After an exciting race with many position changes, Charlie Buckingham/Austin Sperry USA finised first ahead of John McCausland/Roger Feer USA and Xavier Rohart/ Pierre-Alexis Ponsot FRA. Leaders before the last race today are Mark Mendelblatt/Magnus Liljedahl USA 2 points ahead of Rohart/Ponsot FRA. George Szabo/Edoaro Natucci USA/ITA 5 points behind and Lars Grael/Samuel Goncalves BRA 7 with a 7 points' backlog have also still a chance to win the Cup.
The start of race 4 at the Bacardi Cup on Biscayne Bay was delayed for about 2 hours due to too light and irregular winds. Winners of the day were Lars Grael/Samuel Goncalves BRA ahead of George Szabo/Edoardo Natucci USA. With the discard in effect, Mark Mendelblatt/Magnus Liljedahl USA are now the overall leaders ahead of Xavier Rohart/Pierre-Alexis Ponsot FRA and Augie Diaz/Bruno Prada USA/BRA tied 4 points behind. With an option on the Bacardi Cup title remain also Grael/Goncalves BRA and Szabo/Natucci USA on the ranks 4 and 5.
Yesterday, the planned two races were held at the Star Bacardi Cup on Biscayne Bay in a moderate breeze. Winners of the day were George Szabo USA/Edoardo Natucci ITA (after an abandoned race on day one with gear failure) and Mark Mendelblatt/Magnus Lilljedahl USA. Xavier Rohart/Pierre-Alexis Ponsot FRA defended their first place overall 4 points ahead of Mark Mendelblatt/Magnus Liljedahl USA. Lars Grael/Samuel Goncalves BRA advanced on rank 3.
Fresh winds around 20kn, slightly diminishing towards the end of the almost 3hrs race, prevailed during race 2 of the 90th Bacardi Cup, for the first time a Star Sailors' League event, on Biscayne Bay. The postponed race 1 from the too windy opening day has been scheduled for today, Wednesday.
Yesterday, fresh winds with gusts above 30 kn prevented sailing on the first day of the 2017 Starboat Bacardi Cup. The forecast for today looks favorable and two races have therefore been scheduled. The Star Sailors League will present the competition by livestream on the Internet beginning at 17h UTC.
