Olympic Worldcup 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Final results

 Olympic Worldcup 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Final results The second 2017 Olympic Classes World Cup Regatta, the Semaine Olympique Française in Hyères FRA, was concluded yesterday with the remaining five Medal Races.
Starting a premature winners in the 470 men, the Olympic Champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS demonstrated once more their superiorty and winning the Medal Race, they extended their overall lead on 34 points. Fock/Dackhammar SWE and Mantis/Kagialis GRE remained on the ranks 2 and 3. In the 470 women, Afrodite Zegers/Aneloes Van Veen NED had their first place overall before the race already, but the fight for Silver and Bronze ended in favour of Silvia Mas-Depares/Patricia Cantares ESP finishing 3rd and breaking the tie with Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI, only rank 8. First in the Finns was Alican Kaynar TUR covering the his last challenger Nicholas Heiner NED in the Medal Race and realizing the first Turkish Worldcup win ever.
As winner of the day, Jonathan Lobert FRA moved up on rank 3 overall.

 Laser - Olympic World5up 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Final results, Buckingham USA 10th The two Laser classes sailed their Medal Races at the Hyères Worldcup yesterday in an 8 to 12 kn breeze.
Finishing 3rd, Pavlos Kontides CYP replaced the leading Francesco Marrai ITA on top of the Lasers Standard at equal points on the 2nd place. Matthew Wearn AUS earned Bronze. The only North American engaged in a Medal Race, Charlie Buckingham USA, finished the Worldcup event on rank 10.
In the Lasers Radial, Evi Van Acker BEL clearly controlled her only challenger Tuula Tenkanen FIN and finished as superior overall winner with a 20 points' advantage. Mathilde de Kerangat FRA remained 3rd.

 Olympic Worldcup 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 5 In sun and a 15 kn Eastwind, half of the Olympic Classes, i.e. both Windsurfer and Skiff fleets as well as the Nacra-17, concluded the Hyères Worldcup Regatta yesterday with the Medal Races. No changes occurred on top of the rankings.
Diego Botin/Iago Lopez ESP were the premature winners in the 49ers already before the Medal Race. Fletcher/Bithell GBR and Sylvan/Anjemark SWE earned Silver and Bronze. In the 49ersFX, the Olympic Champions Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze BRA were first in the Medal Race as well finished as dominating winners overall ahead of Jurczok/Lorenz GER and Dobson/Tidey GBR. Superior was also the victory of Fernando Echevarri/Tara Pacheco ESP in the Nacra 17 ahead of Moana Vaireaux/Manon Audinet FRA and Lin Cenholt/Christian Lübeck DEN.
On top of the RS:X men windsurfers was Louis Giard FRA followed by Piotr Myszka POL and Kiran Badloe NED. Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL grasped Gold in the RS:X women windsurfers ahead of Yunxiu Lu CHN and Noga Geller ISR.
All other classes sailed their last qualification races to select the 10 best for today's Medal Races. In the 470 men, the Olympic Champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS are alredy now the final winners with 24 points' lead on Fock/Dackhammar SWE and Mantis/Kagialis GRE. In the 470 women, Afrodite Zegers/Aneloes Van Veen NED won both heats of the day exending their lead on 19 points. Fahrni/Siegenthaler SUI, Seabright/Carpenter GBR and Mas-Depares/Cantero ESP will fight for Silver and Bronze today.
Finishing 1st and 2nd yesterday, Alican Kaynar TUR took the lead in the Finns 10 points ahead of Nicholas Heiner NED on 2nd. Ed Wright GBR moved up on rank 3.

 Laser - Olympic World5up 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 4, Medal Race for Buckingham USA Perfect sailing conditions with a 15 kn Eastwind and sun prevailed yesterday on Hyères Bay during the last two qualification races of the Laser classes.
Francesco Marrai ITA extended his lead in the Lasers Standard on 7 points. Pavlos Kontides CYP remains on 2nd and Tom Burton AUS follows 7 points behind on rank 3. Charlie Buckingham USA is 9th, Robert Davies CAN 25th.
Evi Van Acker BEL will start to the Medal Race of the Lasers Radial with a 7 points' advantage. Tuula Tenkanen FIN on rank 2 remains as only challenger of the Belgian Olympic medalist. Silvia Zennaro ITA on the 3rd place is already 26 points back. Small changes for a Medal have also Alison Young GBR and Mathilde de Kerangeat FRA on the rank 4 and 5. Haddon Hughes USA is 29th, Coralie Vitteqoc CAN 53th.

 Olympic Worldcup 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 4 Fresh wind conditions prevailed yesterday after three days with moderate winds and racing had to be postponed till the afternoon, when the over 30 kn Mistral slackened slightly allowing to complete the qualification races of the Skiffs, Nacra 17 and Windsurfers. Today the Medal Races are on the program.
The premature winners in the 49ers are Diego Botin/Iago Lopez ESP 26 points ahead of Fletcher/Bithell GBR and Sylvan/Anjemark SWE at equal points on rank 2. The podium ranks seem to be attributed in the 49ersFX as well with Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze BRA 12 points ahead of Jurczok/Lorenz GER and another 11 points on Dobson/Tidey GBR.
The big-breeze specialist Louis Giard FRA replaced Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI on top of the RS:X men windsurfers with a 15 points' advantage over the Swiss. Another 10 points back follows Mattia Camboni ITA. Almost through is Zofia Noceti-Klepacka POL in the RS:X women windsurfers with a 19 points' advantage on the day's best Yiunxiu Lu CHN. Noga Geller ISR is now 3rd.
Fernando Echevarri/Tara Pacheco ESP start to the Medal Race of the Nacras 7 points ahead of Moana Vaireaux/Manon Audinet FRA. Lin Cenholt/Christian Lübeck DEN follow as 3rd. All other classes sail the last qualification races today.
In the 470 men, Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS climbed on top with two race wins and Fock/Dackhammar SWE are already 19 points back. Another 20 points behind are Mantis/Kagialis GRE as 3rd. Still tied after yesterdays' races in different wind conditions - both finishing on 1 and 2 - are Afrodite Zegers/Aneloes Van Veen NED and Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI in the 470 women.
A leader change occurred in the Finns where Alican Kaynar TUR has taken the overall lead with two race wins 6 points ahead of Nicholas Heiner NED.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 4 With the over 30 kn Mistral slackening in the afternoon, racing resumed and the planned two heats per class could be completed.
The best of the day Francesco Marrai ITA took the overall lead in the Lasers Standard with the ranks 1 and 4. Only 3 points back are the tied Pavlos Kontides CYP and Nick Thompson GBR on rank 2. The suspense goes on in today's last two qualification races before the Medal Races on Sunday. A UFD disqualification kicked Charlie Buckingham USA out of the top 10, but with only 5 points on rank 10, his chances for the Medal Race in today's last qualification races remain intact. Robert Davies CAN is 23rd.
12 points is the lead of Evi Van Acker BEL in the Lasers Radial on Tuula Tenkanen FIN. Agata Barwinska POL, Mathilde de Kerangat FRA and Silvia Zennaro ITA on the ranks 2 to 5 are separated by 4 points only. Haddon Hughes USA is 32nd, Coralie Vittecoq CAN 54th.

 Olympic Worldcup 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 3 Light winds prevailed on the third day of the Hyères Worldcup. This morning already, a strong Mistral has filled in already, and it remains to be seem, whether races will be started today.
Mantis/Kagialis GRE and Belcher/Ryan AUS continue to fight for the lead in the 470 men with the Australian Olympic Champions just one point behind the Greeks. In the 470 women, the first position is now shared by Zegers/Van Veen NED and Fahrni/Siegenthaler SUI.
In the 49ers, Fletcher/Bithell GBR are now the sole leaders 2 points ahead of Botin/Lopez ESP. Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze BRA remain on top of the 49erFX but thanks to three race wins, Victoria Jurczok/Anika Lorenz GER have reduced the backlog on 10 points.
In the Finns, Nicholas Heiner NED has taken the lead ahead of the tied Fabien Pic FRA and Ben Cornish GBR 9 points back on rank 2. Moana Vaireaux/Manon Audinet FRA just kept the first place in the Nacra 17 with Fernando Echevarri/Tara Pacheco ESP on rank 2 at equal points.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 3, Buckingham USA 6th interim Moderate winds of initially 8 kn, increacing to 14 kn during the day persisted also on the third day of the Hyères Worldcup. In the second half of the past night, the Mistral filled in and winds around 30-40 kn can be expected.
The Lasers Standard sailed 3 races, and Matthew Wearn AUS is now on top ahead of Pavlos Kontides CYP 2nd with a 4 points' backlog, and Francesco Marrai ITA at equal points with Tom Burton AUS on the 3rd positions 21 points back. Charlie Buckingham USA is 6th, Robert Davies CAN 23rd.
The new leader in the Lasers Radial is Maria Erdi HUN, as all others in the top places finished the second race way down in the rankings. Nevertheless, Evi Van Acker BEL remains close as second with a one point backlog only. Tuula Tenkanen FIN follows on rank 3. The Olympic Champion Marit Bouwmeester NED abandoned the series prematurely after a good first day with a 2nd race rank. Haddon Hughes USA is 38th, Coralie Vittecoq CAN 54th.

 Olympic Worldcup 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 2 A 10-15 kn wind prevailed on the second day of the Hyères Worldcup, similar in strength as on the opening day, but from a different direction. The westerly breeze from the shore created challenging conditions.
In the 470 men, the leading teams Mantis/Kagialis GRE and 2 points behind Belcher/Ryan AUS extended their overall leads with the day ranks 1 and 3 in their groups. Fock/Dackhammar SWE and Xammar/Rodriguez ESP follow at equal points on rank 3. With two race wins, Afrodite Zegers/Aneloes Van Veen NED replaced Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI on top of the 470 women rankings. Silvia Mas-Depares/Patricia Cantero ESP follow at equal points on rank 3.
Three teams lead at equal points in the 49er rankings: Fletcher/Bithell GBR, Lange/Lange ARG and Botin/Lopez ESP dominate the fleet. In the 49ersFX, the Olympic Champions Grael/Kunze BRA have now a 6 points' lead.
Ben Cornish GBR and Nicholas Heiner NED are on top of the Finns with the same number of points. Alican Kaynar TUR advanced on rank 3. Here the news of the Finn class. Moana Vaireaux/Manon Audinet FRA are first in the Nacra 17 5 points ahead of Fernando Echevarri/Tara Pacheco ESP.
Best of the day in the RS:X men windsurfers was again Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI with the ranks 1 and 3 and leads overall with one point ahead of Shahar Zubari ISR. In the RS:X women windsurfers, Noga Geller ISR remains on top, but Zofia Noceti-Kleopacka POL has reduced the backlog on one point.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 2 The Hyères Worldcup continued yesterday in a decreasing 12 kn wind, and the Lasers Standard, the last class on the water, could only complete one race, while the Radials sailed the scheduled two heats.
No change on top of the Lasers Standard inspite of a 15th race rank of Pavlos Kontides CYP. 3 polnts behind follows Nick Thompson GBR. With a 2nd race rank, Francesco Marrai ITA moved up on the 3rd place. Charlie Buckingham USA moved up on the 9th place, Robert Davies CAN is down on 42nd.
In the Lasers Radial, Tuula Tenkanen FIN has taken the first place overall thanks to a race win. Evi Van Acker BEL on the 2nd position follows 2 points back. Viktorija Andrulyte LTU and Maria Erdi HUN jointly hold the 3rd place. Haddon Hughes USA is 38th, Coraile Vittecoq CAN 54th.

 Olympic Worldcup 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 1 Moderate winds around 10 kn prevailed yesterday on Hyères Bay during the first races of the second 2017 Worldcup event, and the light-wind specialists had their day.
Mantis/Kagialis GRE lead in the 470 men one point ahead of Xammar/Rodriguez ESP. Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI are first in the 470 women 3 points in front of Silvia Mas-Depares/Patricia Cantero ESP.
The skiffs sailed 3 races. Leaders in the 49ers are Klaus and Iago Lange ARG, and in the 49ersFX, the Olympic Champions Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze BRA are on top.
The Finn leader is Ben Cornish GBR ahead of Nicolas Heiner NED and Tom Ramshaw CAN. The best Nacra 17 team are Moana Vaireaux/Manon AudinetFRA ahead of Lin Cenholt/Christian Lübeck DEN.
A Swiss lead also in the RS:X men windsurfers where Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI won 2 of the 3 races. Two race wins also for Noga Geller ISR on the first place of the RS:X women windsurfers.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA - Day 1, Buckingham USA 16th Sun and moderate winds prevailed on Hyères Bay yesterday during the first races of the 2017 Worldcup event, and both Laser fleets completed two races each.
Pavlos Kontides CYP won both heats in the Lasers Standard and is on rank 1 ahead of Nick Thompson GBR and the Olympic Champions Tom Burton AUS. Charlie Buckingham USA is 16th, Robert Davies CAN 34th among the 60 starters.
In the Lasers Radial, the clear leader is Evi Van Acker BEL with the day ranks 1 and 3, followed by Viktorija Andrulyte LTU and Maria Erdi HUN. The favorite Marit Bouwmeester NED is down in the rankings as a 2nd race ranks has been followed by an abandoned race. Haddon Hughes USA is 36th, Coraile Vittecoq CAN 50th among the 52 starters.

 Laser - Olympic Worldcup 2017 - Semaine Olympique - Hyères FRA The second Act of the 2017 Olympic Classes Worldcup begins today in Hyères FRA. For the first time since the Rio 2016 Olympics, the Laser Standard medalists Tom Burton AUS, Tonci Stipanovic CRO and Sam Meech NZL will race together. In the Lasers Radial, the Olympic Champion Marit Bouwmeester NED will start as favorite. Here the entry lists.
Racing can be followed live via GPS tracking. Light winds will prevail today and tomorrow, but on Thursday, an up to 30 kn Mistral has been forecast.
