Moth - World Championship 2017 - Malcesine ITA - Day 3

Moth - World Championship 2017 - Malcesine ITA - Day 3 A strong 20-25 kn 'Vento' prevailed yesterday morning and numerous capsizes and equipment failures occurred in these sometimes sketchy conditions. The afternoon's 'Ora' was again too light and the skiffs were kept ashore. The qualifications for the Gold-, Silver- and Bronzefleet has been concluded with four valid races.
Winning the two races in his Group, the defending Champion Paul Goodison GBR impressed again, but Tom Slingsby AUS with three race wins remains in touch with the leader, as do Rob Greenalgh GBR and Ian Jensen AUS one resp. two points behind. Qualified for the Goldfleet are also the two-times World Champion Nathan Outteridge AUS despite of two abandoned races due to gear failure and as only woman Annalise Murphy IRL as 45th. The best North American Brad Funk USA on rank 69 will continue the Championship in the Silverfleet. The Final Series will begin today.

Moth - World Championship 2017 - Malcesine ITA - Day 2, the Laser Olympic Champions Goodison GBR and Slngsby AUS on top after two races, Brad Funk USA 24th

Moth - World Championship 2017 - Malcesine ITA - Day 2, the Laser Olympic Champions Goodison GBR and Slngsby AUS on top after two races, Brad Funk USA 24th The thundery weather from the opening day inhibiting sailing stayed on, and the expected 'Vento' from the North did not fill in as hoped when the skiffs were on the starting line at 8.30 h CET. Nevertheless, two races were completed by all four Groups in a 10-12 kn breeze on the Northern circle and 12-18 kn on the Southern round, also with higher waves of course. Foiling was difficult as there were many lull patches to avoid. In the afternoon, the 220 participants waited in vain for the 'Ora' breeze in the opposite direction.
The defending Champion Paul Goodison GBR and the 'Oracle' tactician Tom Slingsby AUS, winning both races of their Groups, are on top in the interim's rankings ahead of Robert Greenalgh GBR (ranks 1 and 2) on the 3rd place. Behind Ben Paton GBR is the America's Cup winner Peter Burling NZL on the 5th place. Brad Funk USA on rank 24 is the best North American. The Laser Radial Olympic Medalist Annalise Murphy IRL is the best woman on rank 46.
