Olympic Classes - Test Event - Aarhus DEN - Final results, Silver for McNay/Hugues 470 men

 Olympic Classes - Test Event - Aarhus DEN - Final results, Silver for McNay/Hugues 470 men On the final day of the test event for the 2018 Olympic Classes World Championship in Aarhus DEN where the majority of nations' 2020 Olympic berths will be allotted, the Medal Races of the 470s, the Lasers and the Finns were on the program. The gusty 15 kn wind from the shore made racing challenging.
With a 6th place in the Medal Race, Deniz and Ates Cinar TUR defended rank 1 in the 470 men. Stuart McNay/David Hughes USA finished 2nd and Kevin Peponnet/Jérémy Mion FRA 3rd. In the 470 women, Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI - finishing only 8th in the Medal Race, just saved one point of their big advantage leaving the World Champions Agnieszka Skrzypulec/Irmina Mrozek POL on rank 2. Tina Mrak/Veronika Macarol SLO advanced on rank 3.
No change on the podium in the Finns: Nicholas Heiner NED won ahead of Zsombor Beresz HUN and Tapio Nirkko FIN. Only 8th in the double-points Medal Race, Tom Ramshaw CAN dropped on rank 6 overall.

 Laser - Test-Event - Aarhus DEN - Final results, Silver Medal for Erika Reineke USA The Aarhuss DEN Olympic Classes Test Event was concluded yesterday with the Medal Races sailed in 15 kn wind from the shore.
Matthew Wearn AUS managed his considerable advantage in the Lasers Standard well and left the Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS on rank 2. In the New Zealand duel for the Bronze Medal, Sam Meech NZL replaced Thomas Saunders NZL on the podium with a 4th rank in the last race. No NorAm Lasers in the Medal Race.
No change on top of the Laser Radial and Josefin Olsson SWE finished first ahead of Erika Reineke USA and Tatjana Droszdowskaya BLR. The then-leading Marit Bouwmester NED abandoned the event two days ago as - according to her plan - she returned home to prepare for the World Championship beginning on August 21 in Medemblik.

Olympic Classes - Test Event - Aarhus DEN - Day 6, Bronze for Roble/Shea USA in 49erFX, more USA and CAN candidates for Medals today

Yesterday, the first Medal Races were on the program of the Olympic Classes World Championship Test Event in Aahus DEN with an eclat: The Nacra 17 race was cancelled as the manufacturer called the foiling multihulls back due to safety reasons (see report below). The windsurfers and Olympic skiffs sailed their Medal Races in a 15 kn breeze.
First overall after the three final heats of the 49ers were Benjamin Bildstein/David Hussl AUT with the ranks 1/2/3 ahead of William Philipps/Sam Philipps AUS and David Gilmour/Joel Turner AUS with Silver and Bronze. Chris Rast/Trevor Burd USA on 4th missed a Medal by 2 points only. In the 49ersFX, Jena Hansen/Katja Salskov DEN were the clear winners in front of Ragna Agerup/Maia Agerup NOR. Stephanie Roble/Margaret Shea USA - with a successful change from matchracing to high-performance sailing - advanced on the podium earning Bronze.
In the RS:X men windsurfers, Louis Giard FRA, 2nd in the Medal Race, replaced the leading Pavel Tarnowski POL on rank 1. Kiran Badloe NED won Bronze. Lilian De Geus NED finished first in the RS:X women windsurfers ahead of Marta Maggetti ITA. Flavia Tartaglini ITA, winner of the Medal Race, moved up on rank 3. Without Medal Race ended the Nacra 17 event and the rankings after the qualifications become final with Lin Ea Cenholt/Christian Lübeck DEN as winners ahead of Gemma Jones/Jason Saunders NZL and Annette Viborg/Mathias Borreskov DEN. All other classes will sail their Medal Races today.
Deniz Cinar/Ates Cinar TUR had a perfect day in the 470 men and have a 12 points' lead on Kevin Peponnet/Jérémy Mion FRA before the last race today. Stuart McNay/David Hughes USA and David Bargehr/Lukas Mähr AUT follow closely behind on ranks 3 and 4 and will also fight for Silver and Bronze today. Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI extended their lead in the 470 women to 7 points on Agnieszka Skrzypulec/Irmina Mrozek POL. Nadine Böhm/Ann-Christin Goliass GER follow another 2 points back on rank 3.
In the Finns, Nicholas Heiner NED has a 7 points advantage on Zsombor Berecz HUN. Piotr Kula POL on 3rd is already 20 points behind. Tom Ramshaw CAN on 4th will fight for Bronze today.

 Laser - Test-Event - Aarhus DEN - Day 6, Erika Reineke USA with chances for Gold today The two Laser fleets terminated the Qualification Series yesterday with two races sailed in a 15 kn breeze.
The leading Marit Bouwmeester NED retired from the competition and in the Lasers Radial, the fight for rank one overall in today's Medal Race will be between Josefin Olsson SWE and Erika Reineke USA - whoever is ahead wins ..... unless Tatjana Droszdovskaja BLR 11 points behind benefits from a down-sailing duel of the leading duo !
In the Lasers Standard, the duel on top seems to be decided in favour of Matthew Wearn AUS who is now 13 points ahead of Tom Burton AUS, who has to defend Silver against Thomas Saunders NZL only two points back. Another 6 points behind follows Sam Meech NZL with chances for a Medal. Charlie Buckingham USA and Robert Davis CAN had a bad day and both lost the Medal Race qualification.

 Olympic Classes - Test Event - Aarhus DEN - Day 5, Rast/Burd USA 3rd 49er and Roble/Shea USA 3rd 49erFX, Reineke USA 4th Radial The winds were very light on Aarhus Bay yesterday, and in the afternoon only, the Skiffs, Nacra-17 and Finns completed some races.
In the 49ers, the leading boats reduced the points' gaps. William und Sam Philipps AUS are now just one point in front of Benjamin Bildstein/David Hussl AUT. As best of the day, Chris Rast/Trevor Burd USA moved up on rank 3. In the 49ersFX, Jena Hansen/Katja Salskov DEN are the premature winners before today's Medal Races with a 29 points' advantage on Ragna and Maia Agerup NOR. Stephanie Roble/Margret Shea USA and Tess Lloyd/Eliza Solly AUS follow at equal points on the ranks 3 and 4.
In the Finns, Nicholas Heiner NED is now only 2 points ahead of Zsombor Beresz HUN. Tapio Nirkko FIN moved up on rank 3. Lin Ea Cenholt/Christian Lübeck DEN defended their lead in the Nacra 17 3 points ahead of Gemma Jones/Jason Saunders NZL. Annette Viborg/Mathias Borreskov DEN are new on rank 3.

 Laser - Test Event - Aarhus DEN - Day 5, Reineke USA 4th Radial, Buckingham USA 9th Standard, Davis CAN 10th Standard The wind on Aarhuus Bay was too light yesterday to sail more races in the two Laser fleets. Today beginning at 12h UTC, the last qualification races are on the program. The Medal Races will take place on Sunday.
After 6 races, the Olympic Champion Marit Bouwmeester NED is the clear leader in the Lasers Radial with an 11 points' lead on Maxime Jonker NED. Josefin Olsson SWE follows on rank 3.
In the Lasers Standard, Matthew Wearn AUS is just one point ahead of the Olympic Champion Tom Burton AUS. Thomas Saunders NZL follows on rank 3.

 Olympic Classes - Test Event - Aarhus DEN - Day 3 The Olympic Classes Championship Test Event continued yesterday according to program again in winds from the shore around 15 kn.
Inspite of a failed race, Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI defended the first place in the 470 women thanks to 2nd race rank, and they even extended their lead on 5 points. New on rank 2 are the World Champions Agnieszka Scrzypulec/Irmina Mrozek POL, closely followed by the tied Böhm/Goliass GER and Loewe/Marfort GER. Kevin Peponnet/Jérémy Mion FRA were again the best in the 470 men with the ranks 1 and 4 and are now 5 points in front of McNay/Hughes USA and Cinar/Cinar TUR at equal points on the ranks 2 and 3.
An overthrow happened in the 49ers: New on rank one are jointly Hedström/Hamel SWE and Schmidt/Böhme GER. Fischer/Julien FRA follow 10 points behind on rank 3. Jena Hansen/Katja Salsov DEN extended their lead in the 49ersFX on 19 points. New on rank 2 are Tess Lloyd/Eliza Solly AUS.
In the Finns, the new leader is Nicholas Heiner NED 4 points ahead of Zsombor Berecz HUN on rank 2. Leader change also in the Nacra-17 catamarans with Lin Ea Cenholt/Christian Lübeck DEN 4 points ahead of Gemma Jones/Jason Saunders NZL. Tita/Banti ITA descended on rank 3.
In the RS:X men windsurfers, Pawel Tarnowski POL remains clearly on top and his advantage on the tied Louis Giard FRA and Kiran Badloe NED is now 12 points. Thanks to 2 race wins, Lilian De Geus NED extended her lead in the RS:X women windsurfers even more and is now 25 points ahead of Marta Magetti ITA.

 Laser - Test-Event - Aarhus DEN - Day 3, Reineke USA 4th Radial, Buckingham USA 9th Standard The Australian duel on top of the Lasers Standard at the Test Event for the 2018 Olympic Classes World Championship in Arhuus DN continued yesterday. Matthew Wearn AUS replaced Tom Burton AUS on top with a one point's difference only. Thomas Saunders NZL 5 points behind is still ready to take advantage of any mistakes of the leading duo.
The situation on top of the Radials is solid with Marit Bouwmeester NED leading 11 points ahead of Maxime Jonker NED new on rank 2. Josefin Olsson SWE dropped on rank 3.

Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI defended their first place overall in the 470 women with the day ranks 6 and 2. Fredrike Loewe/Anna Markfort GER and Agnieszka Srzypulec/Irmina Mrozek POL follow tied 4 points behind on the ranks 2 and 3. David Bargehr/Lukas Mähr AUT replaced Kevin Peponnet/Jérémy Mion FRA on the first place of the 470 men. McNay/Hughes USA advanced on rank 3.
In the 49ers, William Philipps/Sam Philipps AUS extended their lead on 12 points on Bildstein/Hussl AUT and Hedström/Hamel SWE. In the 49ersFX, the Olympic medalists Jena Hansen/Katja Salskov DEN remained on top with two race wins. Ragna Agerup/Maia Agerup NOR on the 2nd place are now 8 points back.
In the Finns, the new leader is Zsombor Berecz HUN one point ahead of Arkdij Kistanov RUS. Ruggero Tita/Claudia Banti ITA extended their lead in the Nacra 17 on 6 points. Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS remain on rank 2.

Tom Burton AUS is now the sole leader in the Lasers Standard with a race win, but Matthew Wearn AUS is only one points back. Thomas Saunders NZL and Philipp Buhl GER remain on the ranks 3 and 4.
In the Radials, Marit Bouwmeester NED extended her lead with the ranks 2 and 4 on 8 points. Josefin Olsson SWE and Maxime Jonker NED are the first persuers.

 Olympic Classes - Test Event - Aarhus DEN - Day 1, NorAm's best Erika Reineke USA 5th Laser Radial The test event for the Olympic Classes World Championship 2018 in Aarhus DEN began yesteday in moderate winds. All classes completed the full program.
In the 470 women, both races were won by Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI ahead of Böhm/Goliass GER and Skrzypulec/Mrozek POL. In the 470 men, Lukas Bargehr/David Mähr AUT are the first leaders, followed by Peponnet/Mion FRA and Cinar/Cinar TUR.
In the 49ers, William Philipps/Sam Philipps AUS have taken the overall lead with two bullets ahead of Salskov/Nielsen DEN and Fantela/Fantela CRO. Chris Rast/Trevor Burd USA follow on rank 13. First in the 49ersFX are Salskov/Hansen DEN ahead of Bobek/Tengström SWE and Agerup/Agerup NOR.
In the Finns, Jack Lilley AUS won the only race of the day with Zsombor Berecz HUN on 2nd and Alican Kaynar TUR on 3rd. Nacra 17 leaders are the newly-crowned European Champions Ruggero Tita/Claudia Banti ITA ahead of Gemma Jones/Jason Saunders NZL on rank 2.
In the windsurfers, the leaders are Pavel Tarnowski POL in the RS:X men while in the RS:X women, Marta Maggetti ITA, Lilian De Geus NED and Stefania Elfutina RUS share the first place at equal points.

 Olympic Classes - Test Event - Aarhus DEN - Start today with US Sailing Team in 7 events The next World Sailing Olympic Classes World Championship will be organised in Aarhus DEN in 2018, the event to allot most of the 2020 Olympic nations' berths. Today begins the test event for the organisers, but also for teams wanting to get familiar with the venue. Over 250 boats will participate in the 10 events. The US Sailing Team participates in the 470 men, 49er, 49erFX, Finn, Laser Standard, Laser Radial and RS:X men.
