 Optimist - World Championship 2018 - Limassol CYP - Final results - Gold for Marco Gradoni ITA. Silver for Stephen Baker USA Marco Gradoni ITA concluded the 2018 Optimist World Championship yesterday with another race win and defended his title of the previous year with a 33 points' advantage on Stephen Baker USA. Bronze went to Panwa Boonnak THA. Tommy Sitzmann USA was 6th, Peter Foley USA 58th. A MEX and three CAN Optimist sailors finished in the Silverfleet.
The best girl is - as last year - Maria Perello ESP on rank 14. Faith Hailey Toh SGP on rank 21 is the 2nd-best girl taking Silver, Bronze went to Anja Von Allmen SUI as 27th.

 Optimist - World Championship 2018 - Limassol CYP - Day 7, excellent US results: Sitzmann 3rd, Baker 4th All four fleets completed another two races in a 15kn breeze yesterday on the second-last day of the Optimist World Championship on Cyprus.
The outstanding dominator of the event, Marco Gradoni ITA, was after 9 bullets for the first time defeated. His second race rank is now the discard result on his score sheet. Behind the Italian are Panwa Boonak THA and new Thommy Sitzmann USA on the ranks 2 and 3. Stephen Baker USA

 Optimist - World Championship 2018 - Limassol CYP - Day 6, Baker USA 3rd, Sitzmann USA 5th Yesterday, the Optimist Worlds individual fleetracing finals restarted after the two days' teamrace, and all four fleets sailed a race each.
Marco Gradoni ITA continued with his row of bullets now in the Goldfleet, and with seven wins in seven races, he is by far a class of his own. But Panwa Boonak THA finishing 2nd remains in contact with a 6 points' backlog on Gradoni. Stephen Baker USA remains on rank 3. The other US boys in the Goldfleet - Tommy Sitzmann and Peter Foley - are on the positions 5 and 24.

 Optimist - Team Race World Championship - Limassol CYP - Day 5 - Gold for Thailand, USA 5th The best 16 Teams sailed yesterday the Final Series of the Optimist Team Race World Championship 2018 in light winds and at the end of the day, Italy and Thailand remained to fight for the title with Thailand as winner. Spain finished as 3rd behind Italy. The 5th-placed USA Team was eliminated in the fifth flight by Spain. Here the results and the news.
Today, the Championship continues with the individual fleetraces. Leader after the first half of the competition is Marco Gradoni ITA ahead of the tied Panwa Boonak THA and Stephen Baker USA.

Optimist - World Championship 2018 - Limassol CYP - Day 4 - Team-Racing, USA qualified for best-16

After 3 days individual fleet racing, Team Racing was on the program yesterday with the best-ranked 48 nations' teams and to continue today with 16 finalists. 70 duels were sailed in an 8-10kn wind. In addition to the defending champion USA (where teamracing is highly popular), a.o. Italy, Singapure, Argentina, Brazil, Thailand and Switzerland have qualified. The Swiss Team was only defeated by Thailand in four duels.

 Optimist - World Championship 2018 - Limassol CYP - Day 3, Baker USA 3rd and Sitzmann USA 5th in the top-10 The Qualification Series at the Optimist World Championship in Limassol/Cyprus were concluded yesterday with the races nbr 5 and 6 to split the fleet in Gold-, Silver-, Bronze- and Emerald-Groups.
Finishing the 6 races with 6 wins in his Group, the defending champion Marco Gradoni ITA demonstrated an impressive performance up-to-now. On the ranks 2 and 3 five points behind follow Panwa Boonnak THA and Stephen Baker USA. Yanne Broers NED new on rank 8 advanced yesterday on the first girl's place. Qualified for the Goldfleet are also Tommy Sitzmann USA on 5th and Peter Foley USA on 19th. Mateo Cortez Suarez MEX on 94h, Jean-Rene Kiekens-Arana CAN on 95th and Noah Adler CAN on 101st will continue the Championship in the Silverfleet. All other USA, MEX, CAN and ISV team members (teams of five) will be in the Bronze- or Emerald-Fleets among the 258 participants.

Today and tomorrow, the Team-Race Worlds will be held. On Monday, the individual World Championship races will resume.

 Optimist - World Championship 2018 - Limassol CYP - Day 2, excellent Stephen Baker USA now 2nd The defending champion Marco Gradoni ITA convinced again yesterday winning the planned two races of his group (fleet split in 4 groups) on the second day of the Optimist Worlds on Cyprus. On rank 2 is Stephen Baker USA USA, Panwa Boonnak THA follows on rank 3. Anja Von Allmen SUI, day ranks 5 and 11, moved up on rank 7 overall as best-ranked girl. Tommy Sitzmann USA is 5th, Mateo Cortes Suarez MEX 104th, Noah
Adler CAN 133rd and Milo Miller ISV 150th. Two more qualification races are on the program today with the 69 best participants qualified for the Goldfleet.

The first leader is defending champions Marco Gradoni ITA, winner of both heats of his group, followed by Stephen Baker USA on rank 2. Richard Schulthess MLT is 3rd. Mateo Cortes Suarez MEX is 73rd, Jackson Macaulay CAN 114th and Milo Miller ISV 127th among the 265 participants.

 Optimist - World Championship 2018 - Limassol CYP - Start today with CAN, ISV, MEX and USA Teams The 2018 Optimist World Championship begins on Cyprus today with the first races. 264 participants from 56 nations and 5 continents are on the entry list, most of them with full 5-boat-teams. - as always one of the most international events in the entire family of international (and Olympic) sports. North America is represented by full teams from CAN, ISV, MEX and USA. Favorites are hardly to detect in the quickly changing environment of fast growing young athletes, but there are high hopes, that the multiple season winner Stephan Baker USA will end in the top ranks.
