The ILCA 6 & 7 European Championships came to an end in Andora on the Ligurian coast with three races held in around 10kn of wind yesterday. ----- In the ILCA 6, Marit Bouwmeester NED won clearly - her first big win after the baby break, already her fifth European Championship title in total! Vasileia Karachaliou GRE and Maria Erdi HUN - with the ranks 4/2/1 best of yesterday - won silver and bronze. ----- For the first time, Léonie Baudet SUI and Ella Mirzai SUI took part in a European Championship. In the demanding conditions, they finished 42nd and 46th in the Silverfleet. ----- In the ILCA 7, two-time Olympic medalist Tonci Stipanovic CRO moved up to the first place, with Filip Jurisic CRO just one point behind for a Croatian one-two. Yesterday in Andora there were moderate winds between 8 and 12kn, all the fleets were able to finish two races each. Nothing has been decided before today's final day: In the ILCA 7, Matthew Wear AUS leads by 6 points over Tonci Stipanovic CRO. Another 6 points behind, Duko Bos NED is now 3rd. World Champion Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA is 7th - the ranking ILCA 7 Goldfleet. In the Silverfleet Julian Hoffamnn GER is leading, Gauthier Verhulst SUI could improve with a 3rd heat rank to rank 13 (=75 overall). In the women's ILCA 6 the first 4 are only 5 points apart: Marit Bouwmeester NED is in the lead, 2 points behind Emma Plasschaert BEL, another 3 points behind Vasileia Karachaliou GRE and Anne-Marie Rindom DEN share 3rd place. After three days of light winds, there was plenty of action and a full program yesterday with 18-25kn winds and big waves: The ILCA 6 finished 3 races, the ILCA 7, sailing in three fleets, were able to finish 2 races. ----- As best of the day (2/4), the Olympic gold medalist Matthew Wearn AUS took the lead, but Philipp Buhl GER remains close behind with one point. Tonci Stipanovic CRO is now in third place. With light winds at first, later increasing to 20 knots, a full program was sailed yesterday for the first time. ----- After four races, the ILCA 7 have completed their qualification for the final regattas. Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA is leading one point ahead of the tied trio Duko Bos NED, Philipp Buhl GER and Matthew Wearn AUS. Also on the second day of the ILCA European Championships in Andora the conditions remained flat. Only the ILCA 6 men were able to finish a race. In the ILCA 6 women's fleet, which is divided into two halves, at least one group was able to finish a race. Despite light, inconsistent winds, the favourites lined up at the front: Agata Barwinska POL won ahead of Emma Plasschaert BEL. Léonie Baudet SUI followed as best Swiss on rank 30 - the results ILCA 6 Women. The ILCA 6 Men sail in one fleet, the only race was won by Anders Bultynck BEL ahead of Fiacha McDonnell IRL. Youri Deklerck SUI is 39th as best Swiss in the fleet of 71 competitors - the ILCA 6 Men ranking. Not competing were the ILCA 7 who finished their first and so far only race on the start day - Matthew Wearn AUS, Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA and Philipp Buhl GER each won the race of their group. Dull conditions marred the start to the European Championships of the two Olympic ILCAs. This morning at 10 am, the European Championships of the Olympic ILCA 6 and 7 will take place in Andora on the Ligurian coast. ----- A little more than a year before the Marseille Olympic Games, the fleets are top-filled: 195 ILCA 7s from 44 nations, including Olympic champion Matthew Wearn AUS and world champion Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA as well as all other Olympic aspirants.
