420 - World Championship 2024 - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Final results

 420 - World Championship 2024 - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Final results The 420 World Championship came to an end yesterday in Rio with two races at around 12 knots. ----- The home team Lucas Freitas/Victoria Back BRA managed to take the title at the end. Lisa Vucetti/Vittorio Bonifacio ITA took silver, Joe Leigh/Joshua Ferrissey NZL were 3rd. ----- In the women's race, Iakovina Kerkezou/Danai Giannouli GRE were able to defend their title from last year just ahead of Paula and Isabel Laiseca ESP, who tied on points. Bronze went to Joana Gonçalves/Gabriela Vassel BRA, who won the Junior World Championship title in Buzios BRA in December. Valentina Steinlein/Lea Adolph GER missed out on a medal by just 2 points in 4th place. ----- All rankings, the final report and the Video of the day.

 420 - World Championship 2024 - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Day 5 Exciting situation in both fleets before today's final day ! ----- In the Open fleet, Lucas Freitas/Victoria Back BRA are just 2 points ahead of Lisa Vucetti/Vittorio Bonifacio ITA. A further 3 points behind them, Joe Leith/Joshua Ferrissey NZL still have a chance of winning the title. ----- In the women's fleet, the top three teams are just 5 points apart: Paula and Isabel Laiseca ESP lead ahead of Joana Gonçalves/Gabriela Vassel BRA, followed by Iakovina Kerkezou/Danai Giannouli GRE in third place.  420 - World Championship 2024 - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Day 4 In good conditions with seabreeze, the Open Fleet started their final races in Gold and Silver Fleets yesterday, while the women's fleet sailed 2 more races. ----- With 1st and 2nd places, Lisa Vucetti/Vittorio Bonifacio ITA took the lead together with Lucas Freitas/Vittoria Back BRA, who are equal on points. Fabio Fabrini/Margerita Bonifacio ITA moved up to third place, 12 points behind. ----- In the women's race, Paula and Isabel Laiseca ESP have fought their way back to the top with 1st and 4th places. They are closely followed by Iakovina Kerkezou/Danai Giannouli GRE and Joana Gonçalves/Gabriela Vassel BRA, while Valentina Steinlein/Lea Adolph GER 10 points behind in 4th place also remain in the title race. ----- The rankings and the daily report.

 420 - World Championship 2024 - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Day 3 Fresh winds for the two races of the day at the 420 World Championship on the Bay of Rio. ----- With a race win, Joe Leith/Joshua Ferrissey NZL took the lead in the Open standings, with Lucas Freitas/Victoria Back BRA 2 points behind. Manuel Veiga/Rafael de Oliveieira POR follow in 3rd place, with Lysander Winter/Constantin Bötsch GER dropping back to 6th place. ----- In the women's fleet, Iakovina Kerkezou/Danai Giannouli GRE remained on top despite a premature start.  420 - World Championship 2024 - Rio de Janeiro BRA - Day 2 Inconsistent winds made for difficult conditions in the Bay of Rio yesterday, but again two races were sailed. ----- In the Open classification, Lucas Freitas/Victoria Back BRA maintained their lead despite a poor race (28th place). Lysander Winter/Constantin Bötsch GER moved up to 2nd place. Joe Leigh/Joshua Ferrissey NZL, as best of the day with two 3rd places, moved up to 3rd overall. Ioannis Tournis/Georgios Michalopoulos GRE are the best U17 team, moving up to 13th place thanks to a 2nd place finish. ----- In the women's event, Iakovina Kerkezou/Danai Giannouli GRE took the lead with 1/2, two points ahead of Joana Gonçalves/Gabriela Vassel BRA and Paula and Isabel Laiseca ESP, who are level on points.  420 - World Championship 2024 - Rio de Janeiro BRA The 420s are organising this year's World Championship in South America as well: The start of the practice race is scheduled for thursday in Rio. 65 men's teams from 13 nations and 26 women's teams from 8 nations are competing. With 13 teams from 6 nations, the U17 fleet is quite small this year - all entry lists. There are no Swiss competitors. The event website.
