 Olympic Classes  Copa do Brasil  Rio de Janeiro BRA  Final results, Bronze for McNay/Hughes (470) and Caleb Paine (Finn) USA
The Copa do Brasil on the 2016 Olympic waters ended yesterday with the Medal Races, sailed in a 12 to 18 kn breeze.
Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS were the preliminary winners already before the 470 men race, but they did not hesitate to make the final point by winning also yesterday's heat. Luke Patience/Chris Grube GBR followed on rank 2 in their first common event. McNay/Hughes USA grasp the Bronze medal. Hannah Mills/Saskia Clark GBR are on top of the 470 women ahead of Kondo/Yoshioka JPN, winners of the Medal Race and replacing herewith Lecointre/Defrance FRA on rank 2. Annie Haeger/Briana Provancha USA finished 7th after an OCS penalty yesterday.
Annemiek Bekkering/Annette Duetz NED decided the 49erFX regatta in their favour on the last day with the Medal Race victory. Echegoyen/Betanzos ESP had to content themselves with the Silver medal. Mai-Hansen/Salskov DEN remained on the 3rd place. John Pink/Stuart Bithelle GBR had the 49er victory in their hands, when Lange/Lange ARG started too early in the Medal Race and were disqualified. Outteridge/Jensen AUS and Botin/Marra ESP completed the podium.
No change among the top three of the Lasers Standard with Tonci Stipanovich CRO as champion in front of Matthew Wearn AUS and Robert Scheidt BRA. Bronze also for Robert Scheidt's wife Gintare Scheidt-Volungeviciute LTU in the Lasers Radial, where Evi Van Acker BEL and Anne-Marie Rindom DEN took Gold and Silver. Charlie Buckingham USA finished 9th, Paige Railey USA 5th.
Giles Scott GBR added another title to his never-ending row of Finn victories, but it was close this time, as Vasilij Zbogar SLO remained only one point behind after his Medal Race win. Caleb Paine USA defended his 3rd place overall. Winning the Medal Race of the Nacras 17, it was the last moment for Billy Besson/Marie Riou FRA to demonstrate their class overtaking Waterhouse/ Darmanin AUS and Saxton/Groves GBR remaining on 2nd and 3rd.
First in the RS:X female windsurfers is Bryony Shaw GBR ahead of Chan Hei Man CHN and Marina Alabau ESP. The superior winner in the RS:X men is the Olympic Champion 2012 Dorian Van Rijsselberge NED ahead of Nick Dempsey GBR and Nimrod Mashiah ISR.
