Friday, February 5, 2016
Not only the Swiss Volvo Ocean Race participant Justine Mettraux SUI has announced her ambitions for the Vendée Globe 2020, but also the four-times Mexican Laser Radial Olympian Tania Elias Calles MEX plans to take part in four years from now. The Swiss, very successful solo-skipper on the Mini 650, plans to sharpen her skills racing the larger Bénéteau Figaro in the French solo-circuit. The Mexican however, plans an audacious project sailing the 2'000 offshore miles solo on her Laser from Los Angeles to Hawaii this summer. 2 to 3 weeks nonstop-sailing would be required. She already has a longdistance World record on her Laser crossing the mouth of the Gulf of California - 285 miles - solo. One of the main reason to dare this bold undertaking is the finanincing of her Vendee Globe project.
