Yesterday, the Olympic skiffs concluded the Qualification Series with four races each sailed in a moderate breeze around 12 kn.
Although the defending champions Peter Burling/Blair Tuke NZL were defeated for the first time in the 49ers, they went on increasing the overall advantage on 28 points now. In today's Final Series races, they will encounter for the first time the dominators of the other group, the Olympic Champions Nathan Outteridge/Iain Jensen AUS, ranked 2nd overall. Botin/Lopez ESP moved up on rank 3. Delle-Karth/Resch AUT advanced on rank 4. Judge Ryan/Hans Henken USA remain the best NorAm team on rank 16. Thomas Barrows/Joe Morris USA stand in 22nd and make the Goldfleet as well. David Mori/Justin Barnes CAN are down on rank 45.
The skiffs are in the hand of NewZealanders, as new on rank 1 in the 49ersFX are Alexandra Maloney/Molly Meech NZL. Victoria Jurczok/Anika Lorenz GER on 2nd are only 3 points behind. Best of the day finishing twice on top of their group were Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze BRA new on 3rd overall. With bullets in all three races of their group, Echegoyen/Betanzos ESP jumped on rank 4. With a brilliant 4/2/4/9 day, Paris Henken/Helena Scutt USA moved up on rank 9 overall and won the U.S. Olympic Team Athlete Selection Series in the 49erFX. Read more ..... On a safe way to their 4th Nacra-17 World Champion's title in a row are Billy Besson/Marie Riou FRA. Their advance on the second-ranked Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS is now already 37 points. Vittorio Bissaro/Silvia Sicouri ITA stay on 3rd. Thomas Zajac/Tanja Frank AUT moved up on rank 4. Michael Easton/Katherine Pettibone USA now on rank 19 have been passed again by Luke Ramsay/Nikola Girke CAN now one place up on 16th as best NorAm team. Today, the last fleet races are on the program to select the 10 best for tomorrow's Medal Race. The daily news of the Nacras 17.
