470 World Championship 2016 Buenos Aires ARG Day 2, for the NorAms, excellent women's results, disappointing men
Only late in the afternoon, there was enough wind on the Rio de la Plata to start at least one race per fleet.
In an 8 kn breeze, increasing to 11 kn during the day, Afrodite Zegers-Kyranakou/Anneloes Van Veen NED won the race of the 470 women and climbed on top of the overall rankings, at equal points with the two USA women's teams Bolger/Shewitz USA and Haeger/Provancha USA, sailing their first round of the US qualifications for the Rio Olympics. Bolger/Shewitz USA, always clearly defeated by Haeger/Provancha USA in the important races so far, are sailing the regatta of their live fighting for the Rio berth ! With the discard race activated, some important changes happened in the rankings behind. Lecointre/Defrance FRA moved up on rank 4, Vadlau/Ogar AUT are now already 6th. The defending champions Aleh/Powrie NZL on 11th are not yet where they intended to be, but they are now close to the Medal Race cut. With a 37th race rank, Allie Surrette/Alexandra Ten Hove CAN remain on the last place overall.
Paul Snow-Hansen/Daniel Willcox NZL remained on top of the rankings inspite of a premature start disqualification. Thanks to a 2nd race rank, Dahlberg/Ekström SWE advanced on rank 2. Ashenati/Hudson RSA and Barreiros/Curbelo ESP follow at equal points on the ranks 3 and 4. The defending champions Belcher/Ryan AUS won the only race of the day and start to compensate for the disastrous first race day climbing up on rank 11 overall. Stu McNay/Dave Hughes USA have been out of pace again yesterday with a 22nd place dropping on rank 20 overall. Jacob and Graeme Saunders CAN could not improve their rankings either and are now down on 30th.
