470 World Championship 2016 Buenos Aires ARG Final results Winners of the USA Team duel are Haeger/Provancha ahead of Bolger/Shevitzand Croatia
The 470 World Championship on the Rio de la Plata ended yesterday with the Medal Races in moderate winds around 10 kn.
Camille Lecointre/Hélàne Defrance FRA defended their 6 points' advance and won their first World Champion's title. The Olympic Champions Jo Aleh/Polly Powrie NZL finished 3rd yesterday and grasped the Silver Medal. The defending champions Lara Vadlau/Jolanta Ogar AUT had to content themselves with the Bronze Medal, their forth Worlds medal in a row. 10 points was the backlog of Anne Haeger/Briana Provancha USA on Sydney Bolder/Carly Shevitz USA, but at the end of the Championship, Haeger/Provancha had again the upper hand finshing brilliant 2nd in the Medal Race and 6th overall while Bolder/Shevitz ended on the 10th and last place bringing them on the 8th final position.
Rank 5 in the last race was good enough for Sime Fantela/Igor Marenic CRO to earn their second World Champion's title after 2009, their seventh 470 World Champion's medal. Btw, Sime Fantela won the Optimist World Championship 16 years ago. As in the women's category, the Silver Medal went to New Zealand with Paul Snow Hansen/Daniel Willcox NZL, their first Medal. The crew Daniel Willcox continued with a family tradition as his dad was 470 World Champion in 1984 already ! A curiosity occurred on rank 3. Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS took Bronze after six World Champion's titles. But a second Bronze Medal was awarded to Sofian Bouvet/Jérémy Mion FRA, as an error in calculating redress points had been detected, and the French team achieved the same number of points as the Australians.
