Olympic Classes Trofeo Princesa Sofia Palma ESP Day 5, NorAms in the Medal Races of 5 classes
The last Final Series races were sailed yesterday in rain, but nevertheless with a fresh 15 kn breeze. Today, the Medal Races are on the program, but in a number of classes, the overall winners are already known.
The Olympic Champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS have a 24 points‘ lead in the 470 men and cannot be overtaken. Mantis/Kagialis GRE and McNay/Hughes USA will fight for Silver and Bronze. 50 points (!) ist he advantage of Billy Besson/Marie Riou FRA in the Nacra 17, a team that has been sailing in a class of their own since the launching of this new Olympic class. Zajac/Frank AUT remain on 2nd, Bisarro/Seguri ITA follow 10 points back on 3rd. The impressive long series of overall victories of Giles Scott GBR in the Finns has ended yesterday, as he had to abandon a race with a broken rudder. Josh Junior NZL with a 19 points‘ lead is the premature winner. Tapio Nirkko FIN, Jake Lilley AUS, Giles Scott GBR and Pieter-Jan Postma NED will fight for Silver and Bronze. Govern/Seaton IRL could theoretically still loose their first place in the 49ers, but their advance of 15 points on Outteridge/Jensen AUS should be enough to stay on top. An 8th place among the 10 Medal Race competitors would be sufficient. The same situation exists in the RS::X women with Olga Maslivets RUS 15 points in front of Marina Alabau ESP, Charline Picon FRA, Lilian de Geus NED and Zofia Nopceti-Klepacka POL on the ranks 2-5, separated by 2 points only. In the 49erFX, Annemiek Bekkering/Annette Duetz NED are solidly on the first place with an 11 points advance. Jena Mai-Hansen/Katja Salskov DEN are the only ones to challenge the leaders. Lutz/Beucke GER are on the undisputed 3rd position. The most exciting situation reigns in the 470 women with Fernanda Oliveira/Ana Barbachan BRA and Amy Seabright/Anna Carpenter GBR on the first place at equal points. Kyranakou/Van Veen NED 4 points back and Kondo/Yoshioka JPN 5 points behind have still an option fort he overall win. In the RS:X men, Tom Squires GBR will start today with an 11 points lead on Byron Kokkalanis GRE and Thomas Goyard FRA.
