M32-Catamaran - World Match Racing Tour 2016 - Copenhagen DEN - Day 1

Act 3 of the World Match Racing Tour 2016 began yesterday in Copenhagen. Again back on the M32 catamarans and the new format, the 20 teams, split in 4 groups of 5 teams, are sailing fleetraces with the best 4 advancing to the next round. In addition to the Tour Card Holders and other known matchracers, there are two prominent newcomers in the fleet: Iker Martinez ESP, two times 49er Olympic Champion and Volvo Ocean racer (who missed the selection for the Rio Olympics on the Nacra-17) as well as Michael Hestbaek DEN, former Laser and Starboat European Champion.
Three groups completed 4 races yesterday in light winds. Nicolai Sehested DEN and Yann Guichard FRA lead in group 1 at equal points. In group 2, Taylor Canfield ISV is first, leader in group 3 is Matthias Rahm SWE with Iker Martinez ESP and Eric Monnin SUI on the ranks 3 and 4. Ian Williams GBR is on top of the 4th group one point ahead of Johnie Berntsson SWE and Michael Hestbaek DEN.
