IMOCA Open 60, Class 40, Multi 50, Ultime - The Transat - Plymouth GBR - Day 8

Tuesday, May 10, 2016
IMOCA Open 60, Class 40, Multi 50, Ultime The Transat Plymouth GBR Day 8
Today, François Gabart FRA will finish the Transat in New York with his 'Macif' as winner in a new record time. The previous record was established by Michel Desjoyeaux FRA in 2004 with 8 days, 8 hours and 29 minutes to cross the Atlantic E to W. The second Thomas Coville FRA ('Sodebo'), 67 miles back, will probably also beat the record.
The Multi-50 trimarans have still over 1'000 miles to sail, but the race seems to be decided, as Gilles Lamiré has now a 224 miles' advantge on Lalou Roucayrol FRA. The heat is on however in the 'generations' battle' of the Open 60s: Armel Le Cléac'h FRA with his new foiling 'Banque Populaire' is only 40 miles ahead of Vincent Riou FRA with his classic 'PRB' able to keep the pace especially in light winds. The race of the Class 40 roughly at half-distance of the Atlantic crossing is neck-and-neck between the leading Isabelle Joschke GER/FRA and Thibault Vaucher FRA 5 miles behind.
