IMOCA Open 60, Class 40, Multi 50, Ultime The Transat New York Day 9 Victory for François Gabart FRA
François Gabart FRA crossed the finish line with his 80-foot Trimaran 'Macif' during the past night after the 8 days, 8 hours and 54 minutes racing from Plymouth GBR to New York, missing the previous record by 25 minutes, due to the very light conditions in the final approach. The average speed during the 4'600 miles' Transat 2016 was 23 kn (43 km/h). Just before the editorial deadline, Thomas Coville FRA arrived in New York with his 'Sodebo' as well.
No change in the Multi-50 trimarans. With 850 miles to sail, Gilles Lamiré FRA still leads with a 204 miles advantage on Lalou Roucayrol FRA. 794 miles are left for Armel Le Cléac'h FRA ('Banque Populaire') as leader of the Open 60. Vincent Riou FRA ('PRB') is now 44 miles behind. Isabelle Joschke GER/FRA on top of the Class 40 is 13 miles ahead of Phil Sharp GBR who is rapidly recovering the backlog he had after the 6-hours' penalty stop. Thibault Vauchel FRA 31 miles back has also a chance for victory with good tactics in the tricky condition before the arrival.
