Finn Gold Cup/World Championship 2016 Gaeta ITA Day 1, Ramshaw CAN 8th
The announced fresh wind filled in off Gaeta ITA after four light-wind days yesterday. The initial 15 kn freshened to up to 30 kn during the last three qualification races for today's Medal Race.
The defending Champion Giles Scott GBR among the best in the light-wind races went full-throttle and distanced his opponents clearly with the day ranks 7/1/1. With a 21 points' advance on Jonas Hoegh-Christensen DEN before the final race today, he cannot be overtaken and is the premature World Champion, his fourt title in a row. The Silver Medal will most probably go to the Dane who has a 14 points' lead on the 3rd Pieter-Jan Postma NED. The fight for Bronze however will be very exciting with Ioannis Mitakis GRE 3 points back and Jake Lilley AUS, Giorgio Poggi ITA and Fabien Pic FRA are not far behind and all have an option on the podium. In his first international Finn season, Tom Ramshaw CAN is among the 10 best with his 8th place. Philipp Kasueske GER, the high-flyer in the light wind leading before yesterday's races just made as 10th the cut for the Medal Race. Henry Sprague USA is 63rd.
