The Class 40 Transat winner Thibaut Vauchel-Camus FRA crossed the finish line in New York yesterday evening after 17 days and 12 hours for the 3'800 miles over the Atlantic Ocean, average speed 9 kn. The Class 40 race was very much disputed with small gaps between the leading boats. Only after the equipment failures of Isabel Joschke GER/FRA and Phil Sharp GBR, the way was clear for Thibaut Vauchel FRA to distance the rest of the fleet. The report. Six Class 40 are still in the race, and the backmarker Hiroshi Katada JPN New York will be expected in New York on Sunday.
