On a long reaching leg direction West, the new-design Open 60s with foils are demonstrating their speed superiority, occupying the first positions in the fleet. Alex Thompson GBR with his 'Hugo Boss' is on the first place with Jérémy Beyou FRA ('Maître Coq') on 2nd 35 miles behind. Sébasteien Josse FRA ('Edmond de Rothschild') has a 38 miles backlog. Sailing on a traditional non-foiler, Vincent Riou FRA ('PRB') is already 82 miles in arrears. Armel Le Cléac'h FRA was forced to abandon the race after the collision damages to his boat. The other four victims of unidentified floating object resumed racing after repair stops in Newport.
