OLYMPIC GAMES 2016 Rio de Janeiro BRA Final results
Game over ! Excellent US Sailing performance with a Bronze Medal (Caleb Paine) and 6 teams in the Medal Races. The US Sailing Team Report and an overall summary on the last day below.

The Olympic Regatta 2016 in Rio de Janeiro ended yesterday with the 470 and 49er Medal Races. The conditions with 15 to 18 kn winds allowed to complete spectacular races.
In the 470 women, the Gold Medal went to Hannah Mills/Saskia Clark GBR prematurely after the Qualifications already. Jo Aleh/Polly Powrie NZL grasped Silver and Camille Lecointre/Hélène Defrance FRA advanced on rank 3. Annie Haeger/Briana Provancha USA lost their 2nd place with a bad medal race. Leading after the first round, they opted for the wrong side of the course, descended on rank 6 and finally even lost their spinacker. Last in the Medal Race, 7th overall was the verdict.
On top of the 470 men trio fighting for the Medals remained Sime Fantela/Igor Marenic CRO who were never in danger to loose their 11 points advantage in the Medal Race winning the first sailing Gold Medal for Croatia. Silver and Bronze was decided in a close matchrace bringing both teams to the end of the fleet. The 2012 Olympic Champions Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS succeeded to overtake Panagiotis Mantis/Pavlos Kagialis GRE on the final downwind leg breaking the tie in his favour to take Silver. Stu McNay/Dave Hughes USA finished 4th.
In the 49er, Peter Burling/Blair Tuke NZL demonstrated once more their superiority winning the Medal Race. They have been undefeated (except in one test race) since the 2012 Olympics. The Olympic Champions 2012 Nathan Outteridge/Iain Jensen AUS are on the 2nd position, passing Erik Heil/Thomas Plössel GER in the Medal Race.
The highlight of the day was without doubt the 49erFX race, where the Medal Race finish sequence was at the same time the final overall ranking among a quartet within one point. In a fierce and furious race with many position changes, Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze BRA defeated Alexandra Maloney/Molly Meech NZL with two boats' lengths (2 seconds) to the excitement of the many Brazilian spectators. Bronze wnt to Jena Hansen/Katja Salskov DEN. Paris Henken/Helena Scutt USA finished 10th overall.
