World Sailing Annual Conference 2016 Barcelona ESP
Tomorrow begins the World Sailing Annual Conference in Barcelona. As every year, many submissions from the Executive Committee, Member National Authorities (MNA) and International Classes are on the Agenda to be debated in the appropriate Committees and decided by Council at the end of next week.
On Saturday October 12th, the General Assembly (all MNA's have one vote each) will elect the WS President for the next four years. For the first time since long, the President in charge is challenged by two very valid candidates, the charismatic former ISAF-President Paul Henderson CAN and Kim Anderson DEN, not a surprise, as the weak President Carlo Croce did not accomplish much during his first term and disappeared whenever critical situation arose. The only lasting achievements will probably be the name change from ISAF to WS and a new communication effort with a new website with many pictures and videos, including WS-TV. Not more information, but much more difficult to find as before. The dissatisfaction among the active sailors and many MNA's and Classes is considerable, but whether a voting-out will happen is questionable, as with the one-nation-one-vote decision making, majorities can be organised with the right contacts around the world .....
As every year, the male and female World Sailors of the Year will be proclaimed, nominees are all Olympic medalists.
As from tomorrow, a Blog will inform contiuniously on the Meeting in Barcelona. Here the official preview.
