IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2016/17 - Day 6

The leading group has accelerated in the trade winds yesterday and is advancing at speeds of over 20 kn direction South. Alex Thompson GBR ('Hugo Boss') was the fastest during the past 24 hours, covering 457 nm and moving up on position 3 of the 29 boats' fleet. Armel Le Cléac'h FRA extended his lead by 23 nm. The astonishing Vincent Riou FRA ('PRB') defended his 2nd place despite of the fact that he cannot reach the velocity of his opponent on Open60s with foils. This evening, the first yachts will pass the Cape Verde Islands.
