IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe 2016/17 Day 14
The persisting depression zone over the Brazilian coast is favoring the leading seven solo skippers allowing them to chase at high speeds direction Cape of Good Hope. Alex Thompson GBR maintains his lead, but he had to reduce the speed as one of the foil daggerboards has been damaged after a collision with flotsam. His advance has been reduced on 88 miles during the past 24 hours. Armel Le Cléac'h FRA and Sébastien Josse FRA remain the first challengers. The relatively flat water and the ideal wind angle are a perfect turf for the foiling Open60s. A first official abandonment has to be noted (Tanguy de la Motte on his way back to Les Sables d'Olonne did not yet announce his retirement). Bertrand De Broc FRA damaged keel and hull in a collision with flotsam and decided to withdraw after a stop.
