IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe 2016/17 Day 17
The perturbance pushing the seven-boats' leading group along the Brazilian coast to the Cape of Good Hope is moving quickly eastwards. Only the first three boats could keep the pace exceeding 20 kn: Alex Thompson GBR (extending the lead on over 100 nm again), Armel Le Cléac'h FRA and another 65 nm Sébastien Josse FRA. Morgan Lagravière FRA on the 4th place sailing at an average speed of 14 kn is now already over 200 nm behind rank 3. The incident of the day was the elimination of the 5th-ranked Vincent Riou FRA with a damaged canting keel after collision with flotsam, regrettable as he succeeeded to follow the foiler Open60s with his old-generation boat without foils.
