IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2016/17 - Day 54

The sensational comeback of Alex Thomson GBR continued yesterday and this morning, his backlog on the leader Armel Le Cléac'h FRA was down on only 29 nm. But now, Thomson has been slowed down by lighter winds as well, while Le Cléac'h FRA touched a somewhat fresher breeze sailing now quicker as the Englishman. The weather situation over the South Atlantic is very instable and there is some time left until the duo will reach the southern trade winds. No position changes in the rest of the fleet. Rich Wilson USA stays on rank 14 in the mid-fleet.
