IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe 2016/17 Day 57, Wilson USA 14th
Armel Le Cléac'h FRA and Alex Thomson GBR 168 nm back continued their duel along the Brazilian coast in light winds during the past 24 hours. Today, Le Cléac'h FRA will touch the southern trade winds as first and extend the lead on Thomson GBR by some miles again, but a few hours later, the Englishman will also benefit of the fresher breeze and be able to sail ideally on the intact foil appendage of his damaged Open 60. A tight duel is also on for rank 5 with Yann Eliès FRA 15 nm ahead of Jean Le Cam FRA, battling for the best non-foiler classification. Incident of the day was the dismasting of Edna O'Coineen IRL, forced to abandong the race South of New Zealand. Rich Wilson USA stays on rank 14.
