IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe 2016/17 Day 64, Wilson USA 14th
Across the Doldrums, Alex Thomson GBR reduced the backlog on the leader Armel Le Cléac'h FRA to 68 nm, and in the remaining 2'600 nm (roughly 8 days) to the finish, the duel will get fiercer and fiercer in the very unconstant wind condition ahead. To be considered also, that Thomson GBR will be able to sail on starboard, the tack where Alex can use the intact foil of his Open 60, proven to be fast in low speed foiling conditions. Today, the surprising Nandor Fa HUN on his self-built boat will round Cape Horn as 8th. Meanwhile, the group of 6 on the ranks 9 to 14 with Rich Wilson USA on 14th is trailing on the South Pacific partly in total lull patches.
