The Olympic Classes Worldcup Final in Santander ESP was concluded yesterday the the Medal Races of the five remaining classes in a moderate, but very unconstant wind.
The most disputed was the Medal Race of the Finns, decided on the last downwind leg when the leading Berecz Zsombor HUN was penalized for pumping and Ben Cornish GBR had an open door to his first Worldcup victory. Finishing at equal points, the Medal Race win broke the tie in favour of the Brit. Ed Wright GBR had again difficulties with the rather light winds. Finishing last, he nevertheless just defended his 3rd place overall.
In the 470 men, Panagiotis Mantis/Pavlos Kagialis GRE defended their lead and clearly won ahead of David Bargehr/Lukas Mähr AU. Ferrari/Calabro ITA, winners of the Medal Race, moved up on the 3rd place. In the 470 women, the newly composed team Hannah Mills/Eilidh McIntyre GBR could celebrate a clear win in their first race together. Finishing 3rd in the Medal Race, they increased their advantage on 19 points. Afrodite Zegers/Anneloes Van Veen NED, winners of all races this year, had to content themselves with rank 2. Silvia Mas-Depares/Patricia Cantero ESP followed on rank 3.
