Olympic Classes Kiel Week Kiel GER Day 4, no North American teams in Medal Races today
Hot summer temperatures in the high 80ies and light winds prevailed on the second-last day of the Kiel Week held with a reduced program. ----- The double-point-no discard Medal Race of the 49ers today will be exciting, as the leaders Przybytek/Kolodzinski POL are only one point ahead of Dunning/Gunn NZL, and even Fantela/Fantela CRO on rank 9 with a 15 point backlog have chances for a Medal. The North American teams are down in the rankings. Ian Barrows/Mitchell Kiss USA as best among the four USA teams are on the 28th place. Even eight teams from Canada made the journey to Northern Germany, all ranked in the second half of the 82-boat fleet, with Alexander Heinzemann/Justin Barnes CAN as best on rank 41. ----- Inspite of a premature start penalty, Viktoria Jurczok/Anika Lorenz GER defended rank 1 in the 49erFX. Offermann/de Ruijter NED followed with a 6 point backlog on rank 2. Paris Henken/Anna Tobias Tunnicliffe USA are 21th, Georgia and Antonio Lewin-Lafrance CAN 24th among 52 participants. ----- In the Finns, Milan Vujasinovic CRO has taken the lead 3 points ahead of Philipp Kasueske GER. ----- Josefin Olsson SWE has a solid 12 point lead before the Laser Radial Medal Race of today. Tuula Tenkanen FIN and Manami Doi JPN on the ranks 2 and 3 will fight for Silver and Bronze. An excellent 4th rank in the last race brought Elena Oetling MEX on rank 13 overall, only 10 points behind the Medal Race cut. ----- In the Lasers Standard, Jack Cookson GBR has taken the lead. Only Wilhelm Kark SWE 10 points behind has a theoretical chance to replace him on top. Noah Collinson CAN on rank 16 is the best of 4 CAN sailors. ----- In the Nacra 17, the first four are separated by 6 points only. Thomas Zajac/Barbara Matz AUT are now 3 points ahead of Lin Cenholt/Christian Lübeck DEN, and another 3 points back are Paul Kohlhoff/Alica Stuhlemmer GER down on 3rd. ----- All ranking lists and the daily news.
