The 470 World Championships started yesterday in Vilamoura with three races held in a 10-12kn breeze. ----- In the 470 Men, the experienced teams took the lead: Jordi Xammar/Joel Rodriguez ESP are on rank one 2 points ahead of Anton Dahlberg/Frederik Bergström SWE, followed by Mantis/Kagialis GRE with another 2 points back. Ranked 4-6 are three teams fighting for the last European Olympic berth: Sozykin/Rybanov RUS and Kilian Wagen/Grégoire Siegwart SUI follow equal on points on rank 4, and only one point behind are Costa/Costa POR on rank 6. ----- Stuart McNay/David Hughes USA (Trevor Moore Foundation) with mixed feelings (ranks 10/15/1) occupy rank 7. Shawn Harvey/August Dale USA (Oyster Bay 470 Team) are in 26th place in the 29 boat fleet. ----- The 470 Women are led by Camille Lecointre/Aloise Retornaz FRA, followed 3 points behind by Silvia Mas/Patricia Cantero ESP. Berta/Caruso ITA are in third place. Alice and Nora Brugman Cabot USA (Shelter Island YC) on rank 7 had the best first day among the fiercely for the Olympic ticket competing US women. Carmen and Emma Cowles USA (Larchmont YC) on rank 14 are 5 points, Nikole Barnes/Lara Dallman-Weiss USA (St. Francis YC/New York YC) in 16th, 6 points behind the Brugman sisters.
