470 - World Championship 2021 - Vilamoura POR - Day 2

In moderate conditions, two races each were sailed in Vilamoura yesterday. ----- Thanks to a race win, Jordi Xammar/Nicolas Rodriguez ESP maintained their first position in the 470 Men. However, Anton Dahlberg/Frederik Bergström SWE are only 2 points behind. As best of the day (1/6), Pavel Sozykin/Denis Gribanov RUS moved up to rank 3. The Russians, Costa/Costa POR on 4th and Kilian Wagen/Grégoire Siegwart SUI on 6th fight for the last Olympic berth for Europe. Stuart McNay/David Hughes USA (Trevor Moore Foundation) opened the day with a 3rd race rank, but the 15th in the second heat of the day refrained them from improving further, keeping them on rank 7 overall. Shawn Harvey/August Dale USA (Oyster Bay 470 Team) stay in 26th place. ----- Silvia Mas-Depares/Patricia Canteira ESP are now the new leaders in the 470 Women, with Camille Lecointre/Aloise Retornaz FRA 5 points behind in 2nd. The three USA women’s teams were tight on points before the final qualification event to select the Women’s Two Person Dinghy representative for Tokyo 2020. With a rank 2 finish in race 5, the second heat of the day, Nikole Barnes/Lara Dallman-Weiss (St. Francis YC/New York YC) made the difference climbing from 16th to 9th overall, leading now Carmen and Emma Cowles (Larchmont YC) on rank 13 by 13 points. Bad day for Atlantic and Nora Brugman (Shelter Island YC) (ranks 20 and 21), tumbling from 7th to 18th another 8 points behind. ----- Winning race 5 in the 470 Mixed rankings, Louisa Nordstrom/Trevor Bornarth USA (Oyster Bay 470 Team) moved up on rank 6. Maria Marchesini/Bruno Festa ITA are the new leaders, with Amy Seabright/James Taylor GBR following 2 points behind. ----- All rankings and the video highlights .
