470 - World Championship 2021 - Vilamoura POR - Day 3

The battle for the USA 470 Women Olympic ticket could not be more exciting! After a spectacular day with the ranks 1 and 2, Carmen and Emma Cowles (Larchmont YC) jumped from rank 13 to 6th, just one point in front of Nikole Barnes/Lara Dallman-Weiss (St. Francis YC/New York YC), putting them in pole position in the USA Tokyo qualifications with a 4 point advantage on their direct opponents. The leading team before this Championship, Atlantic and Nora Brugman Cabot (Shelter Island YC) are over 30 points behind this top-10 duo on rank 21 and seem to be out of the fight for the Tokyo Olympic ticket after 7 of the 11 races in Vilamoura. ------------------- The overview on the third day of the 470 World Championships in Vilamoura, held yesterday in a light wind around 8 knots, allowing to complete two races. ----- Anton Dahlberg/Frederick Bergström SWE took the lead in the 470 Men, tied with Sozykin/Gribanov RUS in 2nd. Costa/Costa POR in 3rd only two points behind the leaders are the best-positioned team for the last available Olympic berth. 23 points behind a podium place, Stuart McNay/David Hughes USA (Trevor Moore Foundation) are holding a solid 5th place overall. Shawn Harvey/August Dale USA (Oyster Bay 470 Team) are now on rank 27. ----- In the 470 Women, Silvia Mas-Depares/Patricia Cantero ESP are 10 points ahead of Camille Lecointre/Aloise Retornaz FRA. Zeghers/Berkhout NED moved up to rank 3. ----- Amy Seabright/James Taylor GBR lead the 470 Mixed fleet by 2 points over Gil Cohen/Noam Homri ISR. Hugo Le Clech/Julia Colombe FRA have moved up to 3rd place. Louisa Nordstrom/Trevor Bornarth USA (Oyster Bay 470 Team) now on rank 8 lost two places after a disqualification in the first race of the day. ----- All rankings, the daily report and the video of the day.
