RORC Transatlantic Race Lanzarote ESP Day 2
Exceptional weather conditions over the North Atlantic prevent the trade winds from arising at the height of the Canary Islands. The fleet has therefore already split on the second day: The three leading trimarans have chosen a northerly route where a front with north-westerly winds is approaching. 'Powerplay' (Peter Cunningham CAY) is leading with now 70 miles ahead of 'Argo' (Jason Caroll USA). The 100-foot maxi 'Comanche' (Mitch Booth AUS) is holding towards the south where the trade winds will kick in sooner or later. As the best monohull, 'Comanche' thus moved up to 3rd place, only 78 miles behind 'Powerplay'. Maximilian Klink SUI with his Botin 52 'Caro' in 7th place is also excellent in the race, leading the IRC ranking in calculated time. ----- The race tracker and the daily report.
