Star - World Championship 2016 - Miami FL, USA - Final results Diaz USA/Prada BRA World Champions

Star - World Championship 2016 - Miami FL, USA - Final results Diaz USA/Prada BRA World Champions The final race of the 2016 Star World Championship was sailed yesterday in a light 7-8 kn NE very shifty and unconstant wind. After some waiting and a number of general recalls, the start was given again under black flag with 14 boats disqualified for starting early.
The race was really all about a battle between Augie Diaz USA/Bruno Prada (BRA) and Diego Negri/Sergio Lambertenghi (ITA). Only one point separated the two going into the last race for the Gold Star. Neither had won the Star World Championship and they were obviously keeping very close track of each other. Being on the wrong side of the course, they were in a hopeless position after the first beat and Ledbetter/Revkin USA seemed to be the lucky ones. But after windshift on the second upwind, the two top teams advanced to the top-tens, and at the end of the race, Augie Diaz/Bruno Prada were ahead of the Italians, grasping the title with a 5th rank. For Diaz USA, this was the first Gold Star, for Bruno Prada BRA - standard crew of Robert Scheidt BRA - the fourth Worlds title. Negri/ Lambertenghi ITA missed the victory by 2 points. Brian Ledbetter/Joshua Revkin USA earned Bronze. 71 teams classified.
